Bankers Hours This Week At Work!

As a normal overnighter, for the next 6 days I will be doing some training that requires working the bankers hours of 8 am - 5 pm. While I have worked day hours in the past it usually started at 530-630 not at 8, which feels a little late. I am excited but also dreading the normal busyness of these hours. Traffic coming into and leaving downtown, busyness at the gym, grocery store etc after work. But I will keep you posted. Also a little bummed I have to work 6 days in a row. Do you work bankers hours? Or what are your "ideal" hours at work?

I no longer work in an office, but I understand what you mean. You will have to deal with rush hour traffic which can be frustrating at times.

I always do normal hours shift. I wonder why that hour is known as bankers hours. For the bankers here in Singapore, many of them work very long hours. Some of them work 6 days a week starting at 9 am and ending at midnight. They do not get overtime pay though their basic salary is above average. I sure do not like to work such hours even if the salary is higher.

Ahh it must be a cultural thing because hete most banks are only open 8-9 to 5. Which seems to make it impossible for those with these hours to get to the bank. Do you like the hours you have?

@scheng1 30 minutes isnt too bad. Any more than that seems like a long commute.

@maezee Many banks here open from 8 to 5 pm too, but that does not mean the tellers can go back at 5 pm. By the time they finish all the transactions, and other work, it is nearly 8 pm. The back office bankers and the bankers in charge of businesses have to deal with customers requests at all hours. I have worked in a bank before, and fortunately as an agency temp staff, I do not have to pull long hours. I do not mind the working hours as long as the work location is just 30 minutes ride by public transportation from my home. It is often the commute that is tiring, not the work.

@maezee Evening time there must be heavy traffic. New Metro rails are under construction, which blocks and narrows most of the road and it causes traffic block.

I don't have any set hours. I make my own hours. For the moment I mostly work evenings. But it may change a little depending on various things.

@maezee I do enjoy it for the most part. I have gotten used to it. It also allows me to spend the day with my kids.

I currently work from 10:30 until 7pm, and I like those hours because it allows me to start my days off a little slower. I've done decades of the banker's hours and I am happy for this change.

@maezee My commute is almost half an hour, so I need that in the morning, although I do miss the morning rush and coming home its much easier because its later.

Oh nice. I really liked when I worked early like that as well. As long as you arent like me - I used to take a nap a few times a week at 230 when I got home lol
