I am not having any luck with my garden at all. Some plants were coming up. Even a watermelon plant was coming up. I even found some snails and put them in with the plant. Than along came a big brown and black bird. The bird ate the plants and took off with the snails. The empty shells were left behind. I did not even know that a bird ate plants. There was a hummingbird that came two days in a row. So I will get a hummingbird feeder and feed the hummingbirds.

Why don't you put a net over the pots so that the snails and the birds can't get at the plants?

Patches.
Maybe a net would keep Patches out to.

I'd love to be able to put up a hummingbird feeder but they don't have hummingbirds here.

Well, the birds certainly had luck with your garden . Not that we have any sort of "real" garden, but some of the things I've planted never even made it as a plant . . . no birds nor snails would even care about it !

You could catch the rabbit and eat it for supper.

Why do cats like to lay on plants.

@dwstory I think it is because they must secretly like me chasing them with the watering can.

All that was left was the empty shell when the bird flew away.

Nature can be so unfair @dwstory . I wish I could see a hummingbird, but we don't have them here in JHB.

It is my first year of growing things so if nothing comes up it is fine.

I think the bird was doing you a favour. The snails tend to eat the plants. Good luck well apart from Patches lying in the tubs. One of our cats likes to do that when its sunny!

Birds do eat seeds, so it makes sense they would eat the plants. I didn't know they ate snails. You might need to put a mesh of some kind over the pots if you put more seeds in them so the birds won't get them.

I am going to do that. Nothing is going to grow this year. I will be surprised if it does.
