I was so happy the other day because those jumping bugs that embed themselves in my eyes seemed to have gone but yesterday they came back. It was a little cooler yesterday. Once again my right eye is swollen almost shut, I was overconfident and cleared some things up outside when one got in my eye AGAIN!! It isn't a normal spring. Do you have strange insects this spring where you are? It's going to be windy again today so there's no telling how many more strange insects will blow in.

I will look that up on the web, thank you. I have not heard any mosquitoes but I do know that there are a few ranchers down the road that have horses and cows so I think maybe that is where these weird bugs are coming from.

I don't use any kind of chemical poison because I am allergic to them @Daljinder so I am stuck looking for natural remedies that won't further irritate this situation, thanks though.

@rebelann I would suggest using insect spray but I am not sure whether it will further irritate your eyes or not......being in the same air and all.

@rebelann mosquitoes are the worst of all especially their bites. We try to apply mosquito repellant cream to drive those crazy insects away

I haven't seen or heard too many mosquitoes this year @Nawsheen but when there are many I use vicks, they do not like the smell of that stuff.

I like bees, they pollinate and don't sting me but I can do without the mosquitoes, gnats and other biting pests ...... I wish we had more lady bugs and such to eat them.

Nothing strange here, but are you being literal and these bugs jumping into your eyes? Do you know what they are? The only thing I can think of are gnats, but the possibility one would jump into one's eye is slim.

We've only had a very light sprinkle one night last week but that only lasted a couple minutes and then it was gone again @Carmelanirel2 these gnats showed up a couple weeks about after one of those strong winds that came in from the southwest, probably from Mexico. This region is part of a large desert.

If gnats sting or bite then yeah. They jump around in the weeds, are tiny black bead like little things the get into my nose, ears, mouth and eyes plus I've been bitten several times by the stupid things, never before have I run into these pests, I've lived here 20 years.

@rebelann Hmmm, I am not sure if they bite or sting, but if there is a swarm of them, they can get into any crevice they can find. Plus, I see gnats flying around the outside light, mostly after a good rain.

Thank you so much, it is a pain that's for sure. I live up the road from people who have different kinds of livestock and I think those winds are blowing whatever bugs bug their kritters up this way. It's also way too cool for this time of year, usually we're mostly in the low 90s by now.

That's too cool for spring in these parts @sallypup we should be at least in the low 90s by now and not just for a day or 2.

Wow- we have little gnats here in Canada that swarm and then the dreaded black flies that bite at the end of this month but that's pretty normal for here. It's a cool Spring- what's happening with your Spring in Texas? Cooler or warmer?

In my region of TX it has been a real seesaw. Notice in the image I posted how the weather has really been going up and down these past 30 days, it should already be in the low 90s but so far it can't make up it's mind from one day to the next if it wants to be cool or warm. I don't know whats going on in the rest of TX, this state is too big and diverse to keep up with.

It must be all over. All those earthquakes and volcanoes have caused a complete change in the weather pattern of the world and of course the first to be on the bandwagon of change are those pesky teeny noseeums. Then add to that the change in the earths axis a few years back ...... have your seasons started later or earlier than usual these past couple years? It has here which is why I ask.

@rebelann Everything is messed up everywhere we go! Things have changed tremendously, but the experts say we are wrong! Fall starts here in August now and we know that is not right-is that happening where you are?

Kinda, yeah @PatZAnthony these last couple years it was cooler than usual in October and November with really cold weather hitting us in December. Then the last 2 years we were getting unseasonable warm weather in March and hot weather in April, this year it was different. Go figure. I think our earth is going through menopause and we're dealing with her hot flashes.

We had winds today although it was the warmer day of the week for us. It's been years since I've had a bug get into my eye and I don't think my eye ever swelled up from it, but it happened when riding my bike years ago. I don't seem to get bugs in my eyes these days even when I'm doing some weeding like I did earlier today, but it was early enough I don't think many bugs were out yet. We've had very strange weeds, but I've not noticed any weird bugs.

I think the problem here has to do with the arid climate because when it starts to get warm the weeds are the first to sprout and when that happens the teeny noseeums start to feed on them then when the winds start to blow it drys out the green weeds and the noseeums are easily blown away ..... right into my yard the blasted things are driving me nuts

We had chiggers when we lived in Kansas and they were nasty. Don't remember bugs getting into the eyes but I wear glasses so maybe that is why.

I've heard about chiggers, luckily I've never come across any. Since this is the first spring I've had to deal with these bugs I don't really know if wearing glasses would help. Won't hurt to try though.

Yep, it sure was. I'm going to shop for those protective goggles I've seen welders and wood carvers use to protect themselves from stuff. Ok, I gotta ask, is Avon Connecticut the place where they invented the Avon Makeup business? Just so ya know I kid around a lot so no need to actually know the answer
