It's just another roller coaster day

My day began with the phone ringing. It was my niece, sobbing into the phone so much that I couldn't really understand her. But I did know she was calling to let me know that her cat had passed. We talked for 2 hours and by the end of the conversation, she was calm and collected and her kitten was knocking over water and making a mess for her to clean up. And that will go a long way to keeping her mind busy.
Meanwhile, the phone rang again to let me know that my own cat's ashes are ready. I managed to find someone to drive me up there tomorrow to bring her home.
While doing research online, I found a local group that offers financial help for those of us who cannot afford "normal" veterinary costs. They are also affiliated with a shelter and have several cats awaiting homes. So there just might be a cat there who needs me. We've been emailing back and forth and I guess it's a matter of time and them deciding if I'm right for any of the cats/kittens they have.
I was all set to do laundry, but since talking with my niece, I have such a stress headache that I've decided to stay put and maybe go down tomorrow. I have plenty to keep me busy here today.
What's going on in your corner of the world?
Claudia

@CRK109 that stinks but it happens.. even with people. My grandfather was told he had 6months to a year left to live but only lasted weeks.

Doing legal papers for me Claudia, but taking a break every now and again on here.
I hope you find a cat you like then and that you now have decided to get another one.
Sorry to hear of your poor niece.
Hope your headache eases.

So strange that my niece and I went through the same thing at the same time. Same diagnosis for both cats. Today has been a gorgeous day here. Weather a little cooler and no humidity. This is my kind of weather!

Its very difficult dealing with the loss of a pet and I hope you can find another kitty that needs a good home. Even though it turned out to be stressful its nice that your niece had you to call and lean on.

In the last couple of days, everything has hit me all at once so I've been sleeping a lot to try and stay healthy. My niece seems to be doing the same thing.

I'm glad you have such places in your area. We are so lucky here to have a place here that has programs for animal lovers who can't always afford bills and such. Too bad about your niece's kitty. It's a part of life.

I had to do a lot of research to find these people, so I just hope I'll be able to adopt a cat or kitten soon. I was hearing from them and all of a sudden everything stopped. If I don't hear back from them by Wednesday, I'll contact them again and see what's going on.

Everything has calmed down now. Both cats are gone. Their ashes are back home with us and we're slowly beginning to move forward again. Just goes to show the love those cats gave to us.

It's really amazing how our pets become such an integral part of our lives, to the point where they are considered family. It hurts to lose a loved one, even if it's an animal.

@CRK109 I think you should get another cat! They are wonderful creatures and great companions! Nothing is more blissful than when your cat climbs in your lap to take a nap and starts purring.

Yes, it's been so painful. This cat of mine helped me get through the passing of my husband and she and I grew so much closer since then. So it was so hard to let go. And it was obvious that she didn't realize she was sick. But she opened me up so much so that I really do want another cat now. So we'll see what happens next. It's nice to know so many people here understand.

It was bad enough losing Ruby. I thought she had a lot more time with her cat since the steroids he was taking were helping him eat. But one day he just stopped eating, got into his bed and that was it. At least she was spared the pain of having him put to sleep.

Thanks, Judy. I will be glad to welcome a new cat into my home as soon as that becomes possible.
