In short, it's because 'the journalists-etc. aren't paid to research their stories!' True, people are more-likely to tune-in for news that they're sure is well-researched; but more people will tune-in for 'some scandalous gossip' than for 'verification that government-officials' jobs are still boring' And 'news'-groups are paid more for 'click-bait' than for 'boring reporting.'

In my country, news reporters are rarely on ground, they mostly depend on social media reality stories before going into depth with hearsay or exaggerated news.

On the plus side, comedians probably never run of material for their jokes. * * * This is Malika Moongoway reporting for the National Kenyan News Service. This is the breaking new story for the evening. It snowed on the planet Mars and one of the American astronauts fell out the space ship trying to take a picture to send back home to his family. He will be lost in space forever because the US Congress slashed the budget for the NASA Space Program, and there are no funds to send out a search and rescue team to retrieve him. Back to you! * * *
