Going to nursing home

Commerce, Georgia
May 22, 2017 12:19pm CST
The social worker is coming tomorrow to talk to me about moving to a nursing home. I'm hoping to get into hill haven which is about 30 miles from here. I'm not sad. It's too much on my daughter. My walking is bad, and I may stay on a catheter if my back stays bad. I'm worried though because they take all your money and leave you with $30. I have a monthly bill of $70. I can't make that fingerhut payment. I don't know what will happen. My pic of several years ago.

Oh no Charlene..sorry to hear this. I wish you could stay home, but if it is the better option for your healths sake then it is for the best. I guess Fingerhut will just have to wait then. Your daughter could call the places where you have bills and they will either drop it or negotiate I am sure. I hope you get into the place you want. Yes they do take your whole check it seems from what I have heard.

I won't be able to pay. I wouldn't even be able to get a hair cut without money.

When my mother went into assisted living she had bills too. My brother called them and told the she could no longer pay because of her health. They stopped sending her bills and I believe they wrote off the debt.

Nursing homes can be expensive. But you have to do what you have to do.

Fingerhut is an online store with store credit. I have excellent credit with them. Staying home will let me keep paying my bill.

I'm sorry to hear this but at least you'll be in a safe place with medical care available. As for Fingerhut, what in the world costs $70 a month? Like the others said, you'll just have to call and tell them your situation and they'll probably write it off. I know all about back pain, it is so miserable. I hope you find a way around it or to make it better.

The 70 dollars gradually got that much. I am on hospice and I ordered sheet sets and towel sets and Christmas presents.

I hope that you are able to figure something out. Maybe the social worker can help you figure something out that works with your budget.

I would try to contact fingerhut and explain the situation. Perhaps they will allow for a smaller payment if you express your intention and desire to pay it at all. Of course leaving you with $30.00 only is ridiculous. I know from experience with family in the past, that leaving the new resident with such a small amount is par for the course. Will you have access to the internet when you move?

If you are in a nursing home, many of your personal bills might be forgiven. Maybe this is something you can check on now to see what could be waived @OreoBrownie
