I had to try the Devil Fruit

We saw this exotic fruit in our local grocery store and, on a whim, had to get one and see what it is like. It turns out there are many varieties of this fruit, mostly from Asian countries. Ours was from Vietnam. Apparently, the devil fruit is also involved in some game and there is even a face book page for that. The fruit is apparently supposed to impart some magical powers, but in our case did not seem to do so. Maybe it was the distance traveled, but this exotic, colorful fruit tasted pretty much like nothing. The inside looked a bit like the inside of a kiwi fruit. I will add a photo of the "innards" to a comment. Have you ever eaten a fruit like this? Would you?

It may have been picked for the long journey before it was really ripe . This is always the problem with exotic fruit. We can get strawberries from Spain now. I don't buy them. They're expensive and have no taste. I'm going to wait until the local strawberries are ripe. They're picked in the morning and sold at the market the same day. The taste is wonderful.

Fresh strawberries are truly wonderful. I managed to grow them in my garden one year. They never made it into the house.

It is marketed is Dragonfruit in my place. I like the red fleshed ones and I hate the white fleshed ones..... is that racism? The Red fleshed ones are like Kiwi with tart taste while the white ones tasted like bland kiwi, It is actually a cactus

@CaptAlbertWhisker I've only seen the white fleshed ones here . . . are the red fleshed different on the outside?

@much2say they look the same, usually they slice one as a sample so you will know the color inside

Out here they call it dragon fruit. Yes, I have tried it since my little son had been wanting to for a long time! I wasn't sure how to pick a good one, so I wasn't sure if I even picked a ripe one. The inside was surprising . . . I didn't expect it to be white and seeded like that. It tasted kinda blandish. I could see how it would be cool to add it to a fruit salad but I don't know that I would buy it just to eat it like that (it was quite expensive if I remember too).

No, I have never tried this. I wonder if there is some dishes that is made with this. Sounds like it has some nutritional value since it has anti-oxidants in it.

It might be good in a fruit salad, though the inside is a white with black specks. I added a photo in a comment.

@JamesHxstatic Nothing unusual. At my residence we have - mango trees, banana trees, soursop, starapple, coconut, avocados, pineapple and cherry. Our apple tree was blown down during hurricane Sandy in 2012.

In fact we call it as dragon fruit here It is a common fruit here today. I like to add the dragon fruit, passion fruit, honey and a little water into the blender and its juice is very nice. I like to eat it in this way.

Dragon Fruit by Pat Z Anthony
Maybe it was last year that my picture of this fruit was posted here. A local Chinese restaurant sometimes has this on the buffet and local stores do offer it for sale. Here it is called Dragon Fruit, and if my attempt is successful, my picture will be shared with you @JamesHxstatic

Very brave of you to try the devil fruit, James. I can remember when a kiwi was an exotic fruit for me. I guess blood oranges are about as exotic as I've ever tasted in the fruit category. I generally stay with bananas, apples, and in the summer, watermelon and canteloupe. Welcome to my exciting life, LOL.

Anne likes kiwis, but I am not fond of them. She eats oranges, but I prefer tangelos. I had a banana today.

Maybe the one that is red inside is better, as @CaptainAlbertWhisker said.
