Land line or cell phone?

We had a land line with the same phone number for over 40 years. We've had cell phones also for a long time now. I recently realized that 99% of the calls we get on the land line home phone are all from telemarketers trying to scam us or sell us something. I canceled the home phone and as a nice surprise, found out we'll save about $40 a month! Wish I had done this years ago. Do you have both land line and cell phone?

Wow, I don't think we can have more than one cell number per person here in the US

@1creekgirl is that so? here, when there is a contest where text messages are the means to win a competitor, we can buy dozens of sim cards.

I have both land line and cellphone. I know people often try to contact us by cellphone, but I still want to keep the land line. Anyway, it doesn't cost much and it is one backup way to contact us. I know we get scams from land line but it is the same for cellphone, too.

I do; however, like you, all I get on the land line is telemarketers. I'm going to cancel it, and probably cable, sometime this summer and just go with internet. I only watch one or two channels, and it's stupid to pay $140 a month for a "bundle" for two channels and a phone for the telemarketers to call.

That's so true. We have DIRECTV, but only watch about 12 of the many channels we're paying for. But it's the smallest package.

We have both but don't use the mobile much at all. I'm not sure if we'd save money by cancelling the landline. Perhaps we would.

It might be different in another country, but you could check on it.

In our house, we have both landline and cell phone. I like to have both that way if nobody can get in touch with us one way, they can use the other phone.

That's what we thought for a long time also, but when I found out I was paying $40 a month extra, I decided to get rid of the land line.

why was it installed back then? was it connected to your cable or something? i stopped using my cell to call or text for months now. i only call my mother anyway. so i just use my landline whenever it's needed. my landline is part of my internet connection package which is free though phone calls to cellphone numbers are not.

Our internet is with the same company as our land line, but it will save us around $40 a month to just have the internet connection. We pay separately for cell phone from another company, but most of our cell numbers we call couldn't be used with our land line without additional charges.

I just have a cell phone. My parents still have a landline, which has the same number that my dad's family used when he was little (we used to rent our house from his mother, and when our family moved we took the phone number with us.) It would seem weird if they suddenly didn't have that number anymore!

We also still have our landline phone even if everyone in the family except the lil' kids got cellphones. We used our landline phone to call banks, government offices, and so on that sometimes it requires us to talk long.

I still have my land line and since I'm home most of the time its just easier to use than my cell phone. Only my immediate family and a few close friends have my cell #

I have both, but for a specific reason. I mostly use the landline and that's a good thing. But when I go out, I have to rely on people for rides, so if my ride doesn't show up, I need a phone to call for help. So I have to have a cell phone for my trips out.

You have done exactly what i did. I am totally fed up with the landline and handover it to the department. I am quite happy with my mobile

I do because Tony likes to talk, if it were up to me I would not have a phone . I use it for business right now but I can use the cell just as good.

Check with your phone company...I couldn't believe how much we'll save.
