The author and creator of the fictional character and the Sherlock Holmes books was born on this day, May 22, in the year 1859. His first book in the series, A Study in Scarlet, was published in 1890. He went on to write 60 more about Sherlock Holmes. I remember when I was preschooler my mom would read to me from Doyle's Sherlock Holmes books. The picture is that of Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce who played the characters of Holmes and Dr.Watson in about 14 movies and then reprised their roles in The New Adventures of Sherlock Holmes on the radio.

I didn't realize that yesterday was his birthday. Now I will remember. I can remember reading some of his short stories for my English class in high school. I have read all of his novels and stories.

Conan Doyle is the greatest detective writer though some would argue Agatha Christie. Holmes is a legendary character.

Yes I think that the radio show would have been interesting to listen to.
