Home from Vacation

It is always great to go on a vacation and see friends and family but for some strange reason, it is just as great to get home again after a few weeks away.
The ride up and back to New Jersey was about twenty hours and we stay overnight half way. My husband does all the driving as he hates riding with me. Years ago I use to resent this but as I got older, I kind of like it as I bring lots of magazines to catch up on that I hardly ever read. I am waiting for the subscriptions to end.
I also sleep off and on in the car and I am like a baby being rocked to sleep.
On the way up, I keep imaging all the fun we are going to have just seeing my kids and grandchildren. They never cease to amaze me.
The trip is over, we are home and now I have a lot of memories to think about. It was fun.

I hated our ride back and forth from TN to NJ. I never slept or read - I kept my eye on the road even tho I don't drive. I feel like I need to be alert since he has to be. You couldn't pay me to take that ride now. Haven't been back since 09.

@ramapo17 I grew up there from the time I was 10 until we moved south when I was 53. I feel that anyone who wants to visit us - fine - let the younger generation make the drive. So far my husband's son/wife only came once....and we were just a side item on their agenda.

I can understand that @AbbyGreenhill. It is a long ride but I do enjoy it. I have no problem sleeping here and there. As long as my kids and grandsons are there I will continue to go and I have so many friends there as I grew up in New Jersey.

@AbbyGreenhill Sometimes I prefer to go visit as we can leave whenever we want to and there is no messy house after everyone leaves. Can you tell I want my cake and be able to eat it too?

I am a good passenger and have lots of snacks and water in the car. We do stop to eat every so often and use the rest rooms. I would rather be in the car than on a plane where other people are sneezing all over me. I had that with a few kids one time and the parents never said a word about it. The kids were standing in their seat looking back at us and sneezed. It was disgusting.

Gosh we can't imagine a 20 hour drive. To drive up to Scotland takes around 10 hours in total but 20 lordy! Glad you got there and back safely and you had a great time with the family!

We enjoy the ride and knowing what will happen when we finally stop. I hate being so far away from the kids and grandsons but when we lived up there we never saw them anyway. My husband cannot deal with the cold so we moved to Florida. We do stop at the same area every time to sleep overnight and go to dinner. It really isn't that bad.

Glad to read that you have a good trip. When i travel it depends on whom im with and sometimes i have drove as well as the driver. I dont mind driving i like driving at night when there is not as much traffic and just semi trucks as that doesnt bother me to much.
I can not read of usually play on my phone when traveling as it gives me a headache really bad, wish i could but i usually just pay attention to the road or just talk.

Glad you enjoyed your trip back to NJ. Even though it's a long ride I'm sure you were happy with the visit but will be very happy to get home and sleep in your own bed
