A trip on the PisaMover.

Arriving at the international airport in Pisa usually involved a bus ride into the town however they opened a new form of transport called the Pisamover. This small driverless train plies itself from the airport to the central station in Pisa in around 7 minutes. This is absolutely ideal if you are staying in Pisa or want to go further afield to Florence for example. It only opened a month before we arrived there so it was all spanking brand new. It cost 2 Euro 70 Cents to ride into town. I took a photo of the train as it approached the terminal station. After I looked at the photo I thought it rather funny from an English point of view as it does not look like it says Pisa Mover as the word is joined together to make one word. Here is the photo of the brand new train!

This small train is great and the fact that it is driverless it's the best, so you do not risk not to have the service due to the usual Italian strikes.

@garymarsh6 In Milan the most recent Metro line (Number 5) is driverless. In Italy they are not over paid, the average salary of a metro or bus driver is €1,300 a month, it's anyway more than other categories.

@LadyDuck Tube drivers are on between £50,000 and £60,000 for a 36 hour week plus they get 43 days holiday a year and free train/tube travel. A nurse and firemen get £21,000 27 days holidays.

I wish they would do the same here to the underground in London make the tube driverless. They get extortionate pay and yet constantly hold the country to ransom with random strikes. They have no shame. I wish nurses/ policemen/ and firemen were paid as much as they get Anna.

A train with no driver- signs of the times. Do you feel comfortable traveling in one ?

Absolutely. There is only one train that goes back and forward to the airport and to the train station. There is little reason for it to crash as it has the line to itself. We also have driverless trains in London. The docklands light railway system. It felt safe enough to me.

That's pretty funny. Sounds more like a sewer. The price is right though, isn't it?
