Sharing a Childhood Favorite with My Son

When I had some down time while visiting family in Philadelphia i took my son to the library. There is a children's area filled with fun things for him to do and it was too hot out to go to the play ground so the library was the perfect place to go. As he played with toys and what not I was browsing through the children's books to find some books to read together. Among the books I found my absolute favorite book from childhood. I still remember when the book was read to me in my head start. I quickly grabbed the book and showed it to my son. At first he wasn't interested so I just started reading it aloud to him and soon he was enthralled. Now he won't stop asking about the book so I plan on finding it online to buy and add to his little library he has here at home. The book is called Abiyoyo and it is based on an African folktale. I believe it was the thing that started my love for all things horror. I remember watching a great educational kids show called Between the Lions and in one episode they read Abiyoyo. They made the pictures a little animated so it was great to watch. I loved that show too. I love that my son and I both love spooky things and that we can have one of my childhood favorites to bond over. I was surprised at first when my son was actually sympathizing with Abiyoyo but he now knows Abiyoyo is the antagonist of the story. Have you seen or read the book before? What was some of your childhood favorite books and shows? Do you think they helped start developing your favorite genres of entertainment now?

It's good to start the children in the world of books for they will carry the love for books even during their adulthood and old age.

It is a good book if kids are into tales with monsters in them
