A Silly Question: “Can you climb a tree?”

Nowadays, children are not that curious enough to do some outdoor activities. When I was still in my younger years, I had tried to climb a guava tree. My siblings, cousins and I had our memories in climbing and harvesting some guavas on a tree. It is so simple to throw the fruit from a tree while the others catching by bare hands or lifting the bottom of our shirts to catch it. I was having a class online and was surprised with student’s question. “Have you tried to climb a tree?” I thought he was playing innocent of not doing such outdoor activity. But he looks so serious and I answered “yes.” “How about you, guys?” Image Credit: pixabay.com

We had a fig tree that I used to climb. I thought I climbed quite high at the time but once I grew up, I realised I hadn't climbed very high at all.

I think it is nice that we had experienced climbing a tree. At present, I can still climb a tree but it wasn't too high.

@Shavkat Many parents don't want their children to climb trees now in case they fall but I think it is important to take a few small risks now and then.

@JudyEv I do agree that some parents will not allow their children. I also bet that children in the cities wouldn't dare to climb a tree, too.

we had several trees. we climbed the sampalok (tamarind) tree and mango tree. however, i do know of children who slipped or fell from tree branches that broke, which is the risk when climbing trees.

I do agree that a child needs to be careful in climbing trees.I think children in the local province are good in doing this compared to children in the cities.

I agree. Some girls are the catcher of the fruits before. There is a sudden flashback about this. A young lady whom I had interested with gave me the biggest green mango fruit from their backyard. She had climbed on the tree. I appreciated the gesture.

@LadyDuck I agree. My parents do say this to my younger sister.Climbing a tree is not like playing a monkey bar in the playground.

@Shavkat The women used to pick up the fruits in the past in Italy, but they used ladders, they have never climbed the tree. My father used to tell me that a girl climbing a tree is a very bad view, girls are not monkeys.

Wow! I agree that most girls from the province can climb a tree. When I was young, I had climbed a "bugnay" or wild cherry tree in Plaridel, Isabela. Green mangoes are commonly climbed by us in Pangasinan.

We used to climb the trees in our local park usually to hang ropes from them so we could have a swing over the stream! We also used to climbed people's trees to steal apples! I know a few of my friends kids who still do stuff like this but most kids would rather stay home and play video games!
