Our electric bill doubled this month

I didn't expect that using aircon is really that expensive. We've been using our air conditioner every night and sometimes at noontime. Our electric bill is usually 1,500 pesos but now it reach 3,200 pesos. I thought about 500 pesos only will be added to our bill. I didn't know it will double. We will be thinking of ways to save maybe we will turn off the aircon early and just use electric fans.

Ours was the same. It could be the a/c then and maybe during peak hours the cost is more?

@averygirl72 Yes, lesson learn. A/c is expensive but we use it for a hour or so to cool the house then the fan.

@infatuatedbby Yeah it's a big difference in temperature. It feels so good when the a/c is on

Do you leave microwaves or any other appliances plugged in while not in use? Apparently, as long as something is plugged in, even if you're not using it, it's upping your bill. I've tried to be more mindful of that.

@averygirl72 For me too, but I try to cut the bill in small ways so I can keep running my air conditioner. That's always why my bill is high. But I'm not cutting it; it just gets too hot too often.

Yes, the air conditioners really spend lots of electricity. We bought new frequency air conditioners and it seems it can use less electricity. The old air conditioners will use more electricity and that's for sure.

@averygirl72 That's true. This is one advantage for us to buy the new air conditioners.

Ow. That is a lot. Fans are a good way to save. Also I put some appliances like TV, Dvd Player, Computer Printer, - on a power strip. I turn the power strip off when I'm not using those - because like @AmbiePam mentioned - they took power even if theyre not on

That's good to know you can save electricity. Aircon offers more comfort than fans

That's why we always use electric fan instead of aircon It's expensive

This is a normal occurrence every summer since people use their ac units and fans more often to cool themselves.

in your previous discussion about this a/c unit, i remember @louievill's estimate was to add 1000 pesos to your next bill. i think it's because you also use it in the afternoon, that's why it's doubled. so have you talked about who will pay the bill and how you can lower it by next month?

My eldest sister will pay the bill. We will limit the use of aircon now. It's crazy high

@averygirl72 because in your previous bill, the monthly cycle was ending, so only a few days were included and you only paid an additional 500, if i remember correctly. but as i also said before, you will see the more complete/realistic amount in the next bill. at least now, you know what to expect and what changes to make.

Maybe the aircon you bought is energy consuming kind, add to this is that electricity went up this month, even ours really went up.

I understand it's summer time now in the Philippines so it is a must for the air conditioner. If you have the timer with your air conditioner, I usually turn it to the number of hours that I think I would need. So it will automatically turn off when I am already in deep sleep. If you don't have the timer with your a/c, just try and turn it off when and if you wake up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and then turn on the electric fan. The fan will still have the cold air from the a/c.

Yes, air conditioning is quite expensive when you have central air that keeps the whole house cool. Say what you will about our rain..at least the AC doesn't have to be on!

Air con are electricity eaters. do one thing put air con and cooler togather, once air con has made room temperature cool enough then switch off air con, and see how wonderfull cooler does . this way you can achieve much more cooling with less electricit consumption

We will just switch it off when the temperature is cold enough. We will try to do that
