Roscoe Will Be The Death Of Me

Roscoe is the golden retriever I own, he stand eye to eye with me when on his hind legs and probably weigh as much as I do. He minds me pretty good and will stop when I ask him to and come to me even though he knows he is in trouble. This week he is killing me with escaping from the backyard, I chained him, with the light leads not a chain, and he still came over the fence. So when I got home from work I built a 6 foot tall and 8 foot wide panel to stop the problem. I laid out the 2 x 4`s and I used 16 gauge wire fencing, with #3 nails and staples. #6 nails to attach the 6 feet long dog ear planks. This took me about 2 hours and Tony woke and came out, he helped me wired the wire panels together so no gaps, no escape route would be there, and he added a few more staples. I walked the dogs, gave them clean 5 gallon buckets of water, filled their feeding box and then we put the panel up, for the night we just wired it to the posts till I could get three hinges. Tony was impressed that I built such a nice wire panel with whatever I already had here at the house. Tony drove the truck down to the end of the driveway and we used the natural slope to get the rider off the back of the truck, I drove the mower back home and into the garage, Tony watched me park it and I walked out of the way for him to park. I look down and Roscoe is sitting by me wagging his tail. I cussed. I told him come on, and I headed for the lead in the front yard, he went under the house. That made Tony mad so I told him to go inside and Roscoe would come back out to me. He did, I gave him a dog treat and hooked a leash on him. Back to the lead and stuck in the front yard. I have no idea where is is getting out now, I think Harley showed him how to escape from the old fence. Maybe I will have to dig deep and get the money for a privacy fence, I would like to see him escape from that!

When I had my dog I had invisible fence. Little Jax the dog has to be supervised. He is too small to be left outside by himself.

Oh wow. That's tough to deal with. I had a dog once who would jump our six foot privacy fence and he drove me nuts. He was so cute though, so it was hard to stay mad.

@andriaperry My dog that jumped the fence was a ding bat. Never in my life have I seen a dog that dopey. So I was really soft on him. Shouldn't have been, but was.

There was just one of our dogs who could jump up the fence. We raised it and then there was peace.

Dogs have their own way of escaping the premises of the house, especially when he has a companion in going out. I hope you will be able to keep them be in your yard only. No more escaping.

I can imagine how mad this would make you. They can be hard to keep in sometimes if they decide they like life better 'outside'.

@andriaperry That makes it doubly annoying I think - if there is no good reason for him escaping.

I could understand if they were in a tiny area but they have the entire backyard,

I had one we named cool hand luck, a chain was the only thing that could keep him home, someone stole tht dog because he was a full blooded black and tan hound.

He sounds like a pretty clever dog. That must have been annoying to see him there after all your hard work.

He is too fond of being around you and will jump all fences to do that... I guess Roscoe's song is the old favorite ..Don't fence me in
