Can The Horse function without child labor?

Don't worry--my young neighbor friend is fine, though he did wipe out on his bicycle the other day. I was brought some JBL L-100 vintage loudspeakers in dumpster condition the other day. The frames the hold the front screens in were totally broken. This is a labor-intensive but enjoyable challenge. I'm going back and forth from working on the screen frames to working on the speakers themselves. This project is a bit too "nuanced" to involve my child laborer. I'll lead with a rather ugly "during" photo. Can you tell what I'm doing in the photo? I'll charge $130 for this job. By the way, it looks like it might rain here today! How's the weather where you are?

Looks like a lot of work, but you should be able to restore those to vintage condition. The weather for ducks - rain - is absent today. They have a day off. The sun is shining. Though we do have more rain in the forecast for the weekend. It always rains on Memorial Day.

I'm going to ask our local ducks to do a rain waddle dance. We had a great Winter, but more rain is always helpful around here.

@just4him You might have to go to a picnic! Or crash someone's big ol' BBQ in the park.

@TheHorse I know you need the rain. I think we've had enough. I could be wrong, but the idea of more rain in the forecast doesn't do it for me. I wonder what it would be like not to have rain on Memorial Day. Hmm.

Are you removing the screens and starting to work on them? Those loudspeakers are in very bad conditions, I would charge $150.00, I am sure they will pay the price.

I'm sure he would too. Since this isn't my main source of income, I like to undercharge a bit. It gives the owners more wiggle room should they decide to sell, or should the speakers need unanticipated mechanical work. I don't know if I'm being "noble," or just trying to keep the wheels greased for more "action" in the vintage speaker world.

@TheHorse In my opinion you are "noble" and underestimate the value of your work.

@LadyDuck Hey, at least I don't play music for free any more. Unless it's a really good cause.

Glad you'll have a good challenge restoring these! The weather is gloomy also, not sure if it'll rain though!

As soon as I read your comment, a ray of sunshine poked through the clouds. I actually hope it rains for a few hours and then clears up in time for me to see my afternoon kid client. He gets restless indoors.

@infatuatedbby We usually go to the skater park. I cycle. He was defiant last week, so I'm going to have to have firm boundaries this week.

The guy said the owner, who didn't know what they were, was tossin' 'em around as if the were old broken chairs. If I can make them look minty, they'll be worth about $900 for the pair.

It looks like you're applying weight to the clamped bit maybe while the glue dries?

Precisely! I'm clamping it left to right and weighting it down top to bottom.

Looks like that is a big job. Another gloomy day but they say no rain, we shall see, I don't believe much what the weatherman says these days.

Now the wind is coming up here. I still haven't checked the forecast. Been doing boring progress notes. Oh, let me find a photo from a couple of days ago. I'm mostly working on surfaces now. I think I've done all of the corner repairs on the speakers themselves, and the screens are almost done.
