This does not feel like allergies to me

I had to go to the doctor today for my monthly appointment for medicine refills. I am feeling awful sick the past few days so I thought it would be good to mention that while I was there. He looked in my throat but not in my nose and he said he thinks its pollen allergies and gave me Flonase spray. I am pretty sure from experience that this is a sinus infection. First my nose was plugged but runny and my throat was really scratchy and I had a horrible headache. Now when I lay on my side my nose has excrutiating pain. It has been running like crazy all day and I have had a bunch of nosebleeds. My ears are hard to hear out of at times and I am getting a cough. I feel physically exhausted and chilled and achy. Whatever this is will either go away on its own or turn into bronchitis.

You are right, this does not sound at all to be allergies, you should go back to see your doctor.

He would just be annoyed if I went back to him and said he was wrong. Seems he may actually be right though after all. As soon as I used the nasal spray my nose stopped running and it was running nonstop before that. I still am very nasal and have some phlem which causes me to cough now and then but otherwise I feel a lot better.

@shaggin , that sounds as if it is more than allergies. Can you get a second opinion?

Anyone I went to in town would likely be just as bad. We don't have the greatest doctors in our little town.

@bluesa After using the nasal spray daily my nose is not running nonstop anymore. My cough has lessened and my lungs do not feel congested. No aches and less sneezes.

I assumed I would get worse and have to go back in a week or two and get an antibiotic but he was right and after using the nasal spray I feel better. I wonder how long I will have to use this spray. I guess I developed woollen allergy in my 30s :-\

I don't have allergies to pollen and it sure doesn't feel like allergies to me. I don't think the allergy steroid spray is going to do anything.

@crazyhorseladycx I am feeling better after using it but I will pick up some generic claritin today I don't like the thought of using steroids. I actually don't even want to take the claritin but it's better then feeling so sick.

It has actually gotten better with the nasal spray so I guess the doctor was right. I cannot believe how painful my sinuses were and it was simply allergies.

An antibiotic takes a few ways to start working but if it is just allergies then an antibiotic won't work anyway.

I hope that you are getting some relief by now. Not fun battling a sinus infection. I have had allergy symptoms that turned into an infection and had to return to the doctor's for a different course of treatment.

The doctor was actually right and it is allergies. I am still nasal sounding but I feel a lot better. I guess in my 30s I have developed a pollen allergy.

I actually have been feeling much better since using the nasal spray. Yesterday I had my windows open, was outside all day for a birthday party and then weeded my garden. This morning I woke up coughing again. I hope these allergies go away soon. I have never had this before.

I have never had this before so I was not expecting my nose to hurt so bad and to feel so sick. I guess if this is a new allergy I have developed I will expect it each year around this time.

Thank you very much. As soon as I started using the nasal spray my nose stopped running constantly so that was a very noticeable improvement. I have been using it each morning and finally today I am feeling almost over it. I hope to be able to quit using the nasal spray soon. The only symptom left really is I sound nasal.
