Today I overheared a guy say to another man, 'You are worthless if you don't have an enemy or an adversary. It means you don't have the courage to take up cudgels for yourself or someone else. You are a yes man who is happy playing second fiddle to everyone he comes across.' Since then I have been pondering over his words.Do you agree with him?

I think people who cannot live without fighting they'll always say like that but it is really wonderful to stay at peace with everyone. it is easy to make Enemies but very difficult to have friends and loved ones so I must say, the guy is wrong but yes we must have competitors.

@ShifaLk I also disagree with him.He was a stranger to me and I was in a hurry.Otherwise I would have asked him to clarify it. My views may be different from yours, but that doesn't mean we are enemies.

@else34 yes that is actually immaturity to fight with everyone instead of understanding your point of view

@ShifaLk You are right.Such persons are of a belligerent nature. They are always ready to pick a fight with someone.

No. My faith says, "As much as it possible with you, live in peace with everyone."

I partially agree with @TiarasOceanView (whose response I can't read without logging out). It is possible to hold views with which others may not agree (making them 'controversial') and yet to gain the respect of those who don't agree with you (and even to win them round). I can think of many people with whom I disagree - maybe even strongly - but I do not think of them as enemies because I can respect their reasons for holding the views they do and they might (I hope) respect my reasons for disagreeing with them. It seems to me that the attitude of a man who thinks he is worthless unless he has enemies is like that of a dog or a cat which always has to be on the offensive because they lack the ability to have trust in others and, ultimately, to trust in themselves (and their beliefs).

@owlwings You are absolutely right and I agree with each and every word you say here.I have my own views and they might be quite different from the views of someone else. But that doesn't mean we are enemies. We may disagree with each other and still remain friends.Problem arises when any of us tries to impose their views on the other. In that case it depends on you to resist their attempt or give in.

To be very frank, living happily with every one is very difficult. If any one exists like that I will call that person 'God' instead of worthless.

@else34 I am an enemy of many people already, lol In fact I am not involved directly to those things, here comes the funny side. Some people imagining things and make their own conclusions, where I am helpless. But those who knows me closely and clearly never underestimate me.

@Sreekala I have 6 enemies. And these 6 men are those who had hurt my parents.Although I have already taken the revenge, yet they are my enemies.Besides them I have some "frenemies " also.I mean, friends who are enemies in disguise.I'm careful, because I don't want to be caught unawares.

@Sreekala LOL!! You can't satisfy each and every person.Sometimes difference of views makes you their enemy.I have experienced it in my own life.

I don't agree, because you can live without enemies; some adversaries, yes, sometimes, but later you can forgive him and befriend him again.

@acelawrites I don't agree with him too. However sometimes forgiving those who had once hurt you or your parents is not easy.At least for me it is very difficult, almost next to impossible.
