Fireworks for Memorial Day?

Some in the area celebrate (if we can call it that) Memorial Day with fireworks.
For some reason, some here also do this on other holidays, not just for Memorial Day. Not sure if this is something that some people might do because they just like noise or if there is alcohol involved or what they are thinking.
Most are used to fireworks in July and might overlook those who are still making noise at midnight. However, it seems for Memorial Day weekend, fireworks are out of place.
Are people in your area using fireworks this weekend?

It seems that fireworks are just popular here and some don't need a reason to make noise @just4him

I don't know of any fireworks displays around here this weekend, and I agree they may not be appropriate for Memorial Day Weekend. I do think it is appropriate to celebrate on Memorial Day. I explained why in my discussion here:
The long awaited Memorial Day weekend has finally arrived. Here in the states we honor those who have paid the ultimate price, given the last full measure of...

Different experiences lead to different emotions about this holiday @DWDavid
We do know that those we knew who are not here now would not want anyone to not enjoy the day.

@PatZAnthony I cannot understand why some people love noise, I like so much the silence.

Some have no clue @DianneN
When we were in Florida last year there were some people using fireworks on a regular basis just to make noise it seems.

Fireworks here are sometime in june for the "offical start of the summer", july 4th, and a few days around it for other towns. Plus in October for the seaside festival we have for the fall.
I wouldnt like them this weekend. Too early and just wrong.

It seems some here don't know the 'rules' @BettyB
We never heard of fireworks being used for anything when we were younger other than July 4th.

@PatZAnthony That's the only time they were shot off when I was a kid, and it was a show. No one had fireworks at home.

It seems like fireworks have become very common everywhere. I can always hear the noise of fireworks here, no matter what occasion it is. If it's big festival, the fireworks can start lighting from 10pm to 2am or 3am. That's really difficult for us to sleep, especially when there are young kids and babies.
Personally, I am fine if the fireworks are just for awhile, but not for long period and not too late at night, as it's really disturbing.

It is the people who don't know what they are doing who are making all the noise @kaka135

No fireworks, it would be nice if there were. Only July here. Even so, they want to ban fireworks in general.

Yes they did a couple days ago and Pat, it was louder then the 4th of July and much longer.
Not sure where it was but close enough to blow our roof off here with the noise.
Needless to say I was a bit perturbed.

Here by me there are mostly fireworks on New Year's, but I don't like them unless they are in a contained area away from residential areas because I worry about dogs and cats panicking @PatZAnthony . I hope all was okay by you.

The pets really don't appreciate the noise, but everything was quiet here by 10 this year.

@PatZAnthony No you certainly can't do that. You have to bear with neighbors.

In our area, people don't shoot fireworks on Memorial Day. They do on Independence Day and New Year's though.

Wonder why they do any of it at all ever. We know the history, but it does seem there would be better things we could do, although I'm not the one to say what that would be @dramagirl26

I cannot imagine that fireworks would be an appropriate thing to let off on your Memorial day long weekend.
Last weekend, we celebrated Victoria Day, and since its in honour of the queen's birthday, fireworks are appropriate.
My favorite are when they let them off on July 1st for Canada Day.
I hope that nobody is offended by the fireworks tonight.

People use fireworks here all year round!!
I posted this in answer to you comment on my post but this was/is a great way to recognize what the holiday is--not to make money!!
I spent the afternoon down at The Point--some people were swimming in the pool--others were out on boats or on paddleboards BUT a bunch of WW2 vets and a few of us from Korea plus 2 from Vietnam sat around and told the kids (grandchildren of residents) all the BS war stories we could come up with! And there was a BBQ going on in the community room--a warm, sunny, friendly day and showing respect not only to those gone but a couple of Gold Star Mothers (now in their 90s) who were the heroines of today!

We often forget there are many who lost loved ones in various wars, from children to parents.
