Bound And Determined

I’m bound and determined I am not going to drag my air conditioner out until after the first of June. Why am I so bound and determined? It was a long hard winter and I had to run the furnace into spring longer than normal. I don’t want to drag my air conditioner out early than normal. And I normally do not bring it out until June. Today it’s supposed to get up to eighty-four degrees Fahrenheit (28.8º C) and tomorrow eighty-seven degrees (30.5 º C). Then on Monday we will have a big cool down to sixty-nine degrees (20.5º C) and down to sixty-six degrees (18.8º C) by Thursday before it starts to warm up again. So I probably won’t be getting the air conditioner out until some time next week. I’ve been opening my windows early in the morning then closing them before the day starts to heat up. Then I open them up when the day cools down. I close them again when it gets dark because if I don’t the gnats (very tiny flies) come in through the screens. Believe it or not, there is still enough snow in the mountains for a ski resort to be open on this long Memorial Weekend. It will be their last time they will be open until next season.

Yes that sounds good Richard. I too am frugal ..no more bills needed if you can avoid it. Only problem here is, I can only open the windows at certain times with all the nuisance smells (smoking and so on) from other apartments drifts in.

@RichardMeister You are not kidding. I was so enjoying the sound of the birds early this morning with the patio doors open and then had to shut them. But it could be much much worse, I am fortunate really comparitively to other places here.

If I can do it, you can do it! We've had some heated days already, but I have not touched the AC at all (I normally do not anyway). It's been relatively cool here for end of May / beginning of June - it's "nice". Hard to believe anyone can still ski at this time of year!!

@RichardMeister 90º, wow, you beat us! We had some winds last week (hated it) now it's just kinda breezy - cool in general. This is great for us as my little son has an Olympic day coming on Friday . . . normally it's super hot for the kids (I hate that they have this event at this time of year) . . . but looks like we will luck out this year and it will be cooler. But no rain . . . enjoy the coolness while you can!

Today (Tue.) was hard. It got up to 90º outside but I could not open the windows because of the dust and pollen the wind was blowing in. Because of the dust the sun was somewhat blocked which helped. The house only got up to 81º. Right now at 12:30 a.m. (Wed.) it is 73º outside and still 81º inside. But I'm sure it will cool down with the cooler weather outside. They are forecasting rain tonight and tomorrow and that always helps cool things down.

@much2say I heard on the news this is the first time it hit 90º in May since 2006. After being 90º yesterday the high for today was 70º. Didn't get much rain but supposed to get more tomorrow.

I just looked up the ten day forecast and if it holds I probably will not be turning on the A/C until after June 13th.

You're just two hours east of me and yet you are in the cold zone. 90 at least today and a little more tomorrow before we cool slightly. Yes, the air is blowing mercifully cool air on us wimpy humans.

Our weather has been nuts. It warmed up into the 80's at home last week then cooled down two days ago into the 50's again. It rained last night and the sun finally peaked around 4 only to go again and now more rain coming. It will be nice in the 60's and might even hit 74 Friday. My quarters actually gets too cold since it's built a bit into the hillside. I have my mini heater on in my room to warm it up where on the upper floors it feels really nice.

It actually got up to 90º Tuesday but only 70 Wednesday and it forecasted to only reach 65º on Thursday with thunder storms. At least you have something to keep your room warm. I actually like my bedroom to be 65º to get my best sleep.

Opening and closing windows wisely can save a lot of energy.
