What you didn't know about Coca-Cola

The Real Thing!

I have to admit to drinking far too much Coca-Cola. Almost every health authority says Coke is filled with unnecessary sugar, and drinking a lot of it is inevitably detrimental to your health. But I think I've found a way to justify continuing to imbibe the drink. Just look at this ad from the 1890s. Contrary to everything we hear today, I'm sure it's telling us the real truth about "The Real Thing". Ideal Brain Tonic! Cures Headaches! Relieves Mental and Physical Exhaustion! Obviously, Coke is first and foremost a great medicine. In fact, with all that medicinal power in it, you should probably have to get a prescription to drink it. At least now I no longer need to feel guilty when I guzzle a big glass of Coke.

Ha! This poster just relieved all my guilt at sometimes craving a bottle of the stuff. In fact, I must get some very soon Ronald. Nice to see you!

Alas, I can't join you today - there's not a bottle of Coke left in the house. Oh well, I guess I've been getting very healthy over the last few days.

That was in the 1890s . Now we know that it causes anxiety, headaches, promotes weight gain and type 2 diabetes - among other ills.
