Pets for Good Health

I've been hearing, for a very long time now, that pets are good for your health. I recently read an article that stated that people with pets live longer than people without pets. My doctor agrees with that wholeheartedly. I spoke with him about the passing of my cat, and the sadness that came along with it. He told me that it's very common for depression to follow the passing of a dear pet who has become part of the family. He has a dog that he feels very strongly about and he said it would rip his heart out to lose that dog when the day comes. And he also strongly suggested that I begin thinking about getting another cat for companionship. So, I've decided to go to the shelter later this week and take a look at the cats and kittens they have for adoption. Thinking about this is difficult, but I know once I am with kittens, my heart will melt all over again. Here's hoping one of them likes me enough to call me Mom! Since I donated my cat's carrier after her passing, my niece has offered to give me a carrier. She has enough carriers at her house to start a little shop! And she just bought a new one that's large enough for the two newest members of her family. So she has extras to spare. It will be nice to be the recipient of one of them. I know that most of you have pets, so you understand all of this. And I know that if I do adopt a new feline, I will be taking more pictures than ever before. Because no matter how many I have, I always wish I had more! Claudia

I know you will be happier if you find another kitten to love.

Yes, it's very true. This living alone business is not for me. And thankfully, my niece has been a huge help to me about getting a new kitten.

I hope you find one to adopt. Once he/she is home, names will be an issue. Sometimes I think it was harder for us to find good names for our pets than our children.

hahaha that's so funny! A name came to me pretty quickly this time around, which is good. My niece is the one who's been having problems with names. But then again, she has three cats right now and recently lost a couple who were ill. So she's been going through names!

I'm sure that there will be some little kitties that will fall in love with you and want you to take them home. I'm glad that you made this decision.

@CRK109 Oh don't be shocked Claudia, let it happen, and love her and remember that love is a tribute to Ruby. You have a lot of love to give, so let it happen.

I'm pretty shocked that it's happening so quickly. I'm still in quite a bit of pain over losing my Ruby girl and yet I know it's a good way to heal myself and give a kitten a forever home. My cat really spoiled me by filling my life and my heart so much, so it's a real tribute to the love she gave me that I can't be alone anymore.

We totally agree with the information that pets are good for your health! Don't get one, get two so they will have each other as companions also.

@CRK109 Really sad, isn't it? Hope someone takes them together. Two of the cats we have are sisters and really get along well.

I wish I could get two but my lease says I'm only allowed one. At the shelter they had a brother and sister that were so gorgeous and I really wanted to take them. but I can't risk losing my home.

I've picked one who is still a real baby. He didn't know much of what was going on yet, so I hope when I visit him again in a couple of weeks he comes to like me!

@CRK109 I see. With dogs, you have to place them in the back seat of the car and have someone go with the dog.

The carrier is pretty much a hard plastic box with holes in it and a handle on top so we can bring our cats to the vet or other places without them getting loose or getting hurt. Yes, it's quite different from dogs that you can just put on a leash!

Get a cute cat that wants to purr real loud and cuddle. That what Patches loves to do.

The one I've chosen is still way too young (4 weeks), so I have no idea if he's going to be a little purr machine. I'll know a little more in a couple of weeks when I go back to visit with him. I'll take pictures and see if he likes to snuggle! I sure hope so!

I am sure that you will know exactly which cat (or kitten) you want to adopt as soon as you see him/her. Pets are lovely friends.

@CRK109 Too many people buy pets as they were toys and then they do not want them anymore.

Some people need 'time' between pets, others need a new pet right away. We said no more after we lost our last lab (Abby) but after three days we got Ruby!

My doctor urged me to get a new kitten soon because of my depression and I guess he's right. As soon as I saw the kittens in the shelter I could not stop smiling.

It's amazing to me how pets can make our lives better in so many ways
