Trip is Bumped Up

A couple days ago I spent a lot of time changing flights for my oldest daughter and oldest granddaughter to fly to LAX a week earlier than planned. I got lucky and was able to change the hotel stay at the beach and changed work days around. Quite a bit of medical was changed as well. No blue light laser until I return. I need to be back for a procedure my youngest is having so off to California this coming Tuesday the 6th. I'm used to love road trips but this year I've wanted to be more home bound. It's not the actual place, it's the driving to get there. I'll be spending 14 hours driving alone straight through. I'll come in as much as I can before I leave and I will have a day here and there I can check in. I enjoy reading about your thoughts, lives and events. Now to read more and off to bed. Good night and nice dreams everyone.

14 hours is a very long driving, all alone must be stressing. I wish you a safe trip and I hope the weather will be fine.

I brought my granddaughter with me from Oregon and we stopped nine hours in. It really helped.

@noni1959 We always made stops when we had very long road trips.

Enjoy your trip. Back in the 70s I had a job where I was flown to L.A and drove motorhomes back to Spokane. I'd probably gotten back faster if I could have come up I-5 but it was during the gas shortage and the boss didn't want use getting stuck somewhere unable to get gas so we were told to stay off I-5 in California. It took about 2 and a half days to drive back to Spokane (stopping to sleep at night).

I remember the shortage. We had alternate days to get gas.

@noni1959 We didn't have that problem here in the Spokane area. I was working at a gas station went the gas shortage started and we were instructed to jump the gas price from 35 cents a gallon to 65 cents a gallon. I said to the boss, "We're going to loose a lot of customers." He replied, "That's what I'm hoping for." We went from running from pump to pump (we pumped the gas) to basically sitting around. Shortly after that I got another job and never did go back to working in gas stations.

@RichardMeister I pumped gas for a living when I was 17 and after shortly married. It was when California still had gas attendants to pump. When I moved to Oregon a little over a year ago it was hard getting used to someone else doing it. Soon as I crossed over into CA on this trip it took me a few minutes to realize no one was going to do it for me.

Ugh! That is a lot of alone time on the road. I wouldn't like that at all.

It can be a long drive. I stopped every two hours and we walked around some.

Would it be too expensive for you to fly? 14 hours is a heck of a long time to be on the road.

It can be because to save and fly in two hours away would save but have to rent a car. To fly directly in can cost about a thousand.

It's a long stretch. I've done longer but no longer want to without taking more days.

Thank you. After I pick up my daughter and granddaughter, we'll head to my son's for a few days and I'll work a couple days in the office there. Then it's off to my favorite lake and then to my favorite beach before we head up back here to Oregon.
