This was what I wanted last winter

Slick, treacherous winter roads. I craved first May and now June. Flowers opening. Strawberry blooms then today, hey! An orange strawberry. Getting ripe. I'd carefully step, one slippery step, snow packed, ice, down the deck steps to the car. I'd pray roomie would get us to town and back in one piece. And I'd remember poppies and holly hock and showy round allium heads. We made it through. We're back to picking oregano and yanking weeds. Yee haw. Time to rest up for the next winter blast.

@sallypup I know the process, my grandfather was a strawberry farmer for most of his life. My fahter grew tons of them.... but I've never seen one orange, they go from green to white and pink then red around here.

@AbbyGreenhill The berry that I peeked at today was orange. Tinge of green.

@AbbyGreenhill First there are strawberry blooms then a bee comes along and pollinates. Then you get a green berry and pretty soon, with some Spring warmth, that berry turns orange and keep waiting, it will ripen to red. I promise. Just let the bugs or dogs get in to the patch.

Love the oregano growing here, but not so fond of those weeds.

@marlina We've been like that: 90s day time for a couple of days then down to the 70s. Roller coaster temps.
