Peppers and Tomatoes

From my garden

I’ve been picking produce out of my garden for almost two weeks now, mainly cherry tomatoes, summer squash, and green beans. The cherry tomatoes are absolutely incredible. Now my husband is impatient for the regular tomatoes and peppers. It’s been a while since I made stuffed peppers for him. Bell peppers are just too expensive to buy at the grocery store. The peppers need another few days, but they should be big enough by the middle of next week. We usually invite my youngest son’s girlfriend over for dinner when we have stuffed peppers. She loves them almost as much as my husband does. Not this time. My husband doesn’t want to share.

They're easy to grow in flower pots. The three plants I have are in twelve inch flower pots.

@TiarasOceanView Peppers are a good choice for a balcony. Cherry tomatoes work well in pots as well.

As a kid I hated working in the garden but I love it now. My garden is small, just big enough to be fun.

I would love to plant peppers in my garden. I use them often in so many dishes. They freeze well too.

My pepper plants are in flower pots. Some vegetables don't do well in pots but the peppers do. If I protect them from frost in the fall, I'll be picking peppers until Christmas.

@BettyB maybe I'll pick up a 6-pack of them and plant them as well. I told @TiarasOceanView to give it a try too. I love peppers and the freeze well too.

Last year was the first year I tried the raised bed. I didn't water it enough. The only vegies that did well were the ones I had it pots. It was a learning experience.

Our tomatoes and peppers are far behind, they will not be ready before at least three weeks. It's colder here.

Climate makes a big difference. Planting the garden in April took some getting used to. Now I try to plant two crops, one in the spring and one for fall.

@BettyB We had snow the last day of April, all those who planted in April lost their crops. I always wait mid-May to play safe.

I should begin to plant tomatoes again. It is nice to reap your own vegetables.

My garden isn't as big as it used to be. I don't have the energy for it, but I really like my little raised bed. I have a few vegies growing in pots as well.

It's a mixture of ground beef or pork, and rice with lots of seasoning mixed in. They're cooked in a tomato sauce.

I don't blame him, I wouldn't want to share either.. I love stuffed peppers. The end of May is our time to plant, it will be quite a while before our veggies are ready to eat.

I enjoy gardening, but I have a relatively small garden now days. We put in two raised beds two years ago. It makes it a lot easier to tend.

My pepper never grew well in my garden for some reason, so I used them in omelettes and salads. Oh, do I love stuffed peppers. I think I'll make some for my hubby next week. He loves them, too!

our green beans haven't even bloomed yet, or they might be by now we aren't there. I never buy peppers and have no clue what they cost.

I LOVE reading about people using their horticultural skills to be real 'green thumbs' since I am NOT a greener at all (despite knowing which herbs to combine for effective healing for certain ailments and such), growing is a whole another skill that serves me more a brown thumb ! I miss stuffed bell peppers also even though they are highly beneficial for moms blood type, they do not sit well with mine SO we do a lot of improvising
