It's a Boy!

I went to the shelter yesterday to look at kittens. The ones that I saw were mostly all spoken for, even though they grabbed at me and licked almost all the skin off my hands! The people at this shelter really know how to get kittens ready to beg to be taken home. I could easily have taken all of them. Since there didn't seem to be any for me, I prepared to leave. As I was filling out an application, the woman told me that she did have a couple of very young kittens who would not be ready for adoption for a while yet. I asked if she had photos, and she said they were in the back and she could go and get one. She had a grey one and a black one. Since I know that black cats are harder to adopt out, I asked for that one. He's a little tuxedo kitty - black with white feet and a little white on his chest. Only 4 weeks old and only wants to be with his cat momma, so I didn't keep him out long. But he's the one who will be coming home to me somewhere around the 4th of July, after he's had all his shots and his little operation. And his name will be Timothy. The name was whispered in my ear one night when I was in bed. My husband used to make jokes about "Timmy" all the time, and I suspect that's where the name came from. Right now, of course, he's more Tiny Tim than anything else. I'm going back to visit him in a couple of weeks at which time I will take some pictures. It's nice to have something good to look forward to for a change. My niece is also adopting a little black cat from there. I got to snuggle with him while I was there, too. He's all black (like her other two) and his name is Bear. He's absolutely gorgeous and I took some photos for my niece, since she hasn't seen him in a couple of weeks. She'll be taking him home in about two weeks. It's going to be a three ring circus at her house soon and I can't wait to see that! Claudia

It's a good thing your gov't provide animal shelters and take animal abuse seriously. Not so much concern here in the Philippines although we have the Philippine Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals..

@CRK109 _There is a saying we should be kind to dumb animals...unless they're politicians.

@CRK109 - not all shelters are good ones...too many are kill shelters and that needs to be changed.

Tiny Tim was the little boy of the Christmas Carol, what a cute name for a tiny black cat. I would have chosen the black kitty too.

Yes, black dogs or cats are the last to be adopted if at all. Glad you found one you love and will be saving a life.

I was determined to go and save someone. And I saw a show on TV last night about shelters and their problems finding homes for all the cats. And once again, they mentioned the problems of the little black kittens. So I am thrilled that between my niece and me, we've saved 3 black kittens in the last 2 years.

@CRK109 Yes, it is well documentd that black cats or dogs are for some reason the last to be adopted if at all. Not sure why people are afraid of black, that's my favorite color.

We raised kittens when I was in my older teenage yrs and it was a great experience. We started out with taking 5 kittens from the same litter and raising them and then having some of the females mate with other cats and helped raise or find homes for a lot of them. Kittens are so cute, but I still prefer dogs now.

I love dogs, too, but being semi-disabled, I'm not able to take a dog for a walk, so while I'd love to have even a little dog, it's not possible. A cat can take care of itself and still give me the companionship I crave so much. When I was at the shelter, they have these huge rabbits and I even considered bringing one of those home! So beautiful!

It's going to be so interesting to see what his personality will be. My niece and I have decided to have play dates with all the kittens. It should be really funny for us and a lot of fun for all of them!

Yes, he's going to be spoiled. My niece is already talking about buying him some toys and my nephew asked me if he could buy Timothy a toy for his coming home present! Spoiled? Yes indeed! lol
