My bank screwed up

So I went and put $20 on my debit card this morning and when I got home to check my account like I always do, I noticed she screwed up and put $200 instead of $20. I called back and they fixed it and appreciated me calling to have that corrected. I told her as a joke I could use the money but don't have the funds to put back in. I am glad I called and they fixed it.

@carebear29 I'd have a hard time feeling comfortable with myself if I "kept" the money.

I've had that happen, too, and so have several people I know. It's amazing how many mistakes banks make! I know one guy who did not call about the mistake and assumed he could spend it so he did. When they realized what had happened about 2 days later they removed it from his account and he ended up with all kinds of NSF charges. He thought they should cancel the charges but he was the one being dishonest. I was really surprised because otherwise he was a nice guy. I'm glad you knew what was right and did it.

@carebear29 I've done that myself when I had data entry jobs. You may have saved her job or someone else's. At one of my jobs they automatically assumed you'd stolen the money if your drawer was short or in data entry if your receipts would not reconcile. Needless to say, I did not stay there long!

That is good that you called to let them know. They would have discovered it eventually but it saved the, a lot of time and work by you calling.

@carebear29 it was good of you to let them know still. Your post remind me of years ago the bank also put someone else's pay in my account. I left it still in there untouched and within a day, it was taken out...
