Still in the Hospital

Today was a day for more tests and for visits by therapists for occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy. Today was sonograms on the heart and on the carotid arteries. As with all people who live to grow older, hubby has some plaque in his carotid arteries, but he has no blockage and nothing to break off to cause strokes. Your carotid arteries are those arteries up both sides of your neck that go to your brain. However, his MRI came back demonstrating he had a full on stroke. The sonogram of his heart shows a cardiac (heart) problem. He is still in the hospital until we get a reading by the cardiologist, and a plan to deal with it. That should be tomorrow. I will catch up with all of my notifications after he gets to come home. See hubby in his bright yellow hospital gown? Yellow is the universal color for fall risk, the introduction booklet says. They even gave him yellow gripper socks. How nice. He is really bummed not to be at home. He also believed he was invincible, and is finding out otherwise. We will get through this.

Bless his heart Heather. He looks so cheerful. Please tell him we are thinking of him and of course keeping you both in our prayers. So he had a full stroke. But other good news no blockage. Yes, he is frustrated to not be at home I am sure. Staying in the hospital gets old quick..no sleep. I love the yellow looks good. Yes I know you are strong and will get thru it. He may have to take it easy for a while. Thanks for updating us really appreciate it. Hope you both are eating something.

He is a tough one, really. He is disappointed that he is not a super man, though and does have a few frailties. We are getting by wonderfully.

@Shavkat He is a little slower than usual, but finds that he is gaining strength all the time. He has a cane and will use it if we shop, but at home he does not.

It is because he is a fall risk, but I agree. It is so much livelier than the usual hospital gowns.

@sallypup I had not seen this in the past. They also put yellow wrist bands on the patients who are at risk. Some of the patients also get a yellow piece of paper with an image of a falling star.

Despite the efforts that the staff make to help patients, hospital can be a very depressing place to be.

Bob likes medical professionals, but it is very irritating to have to call someone so you can walk five feet to the bathroom and to not be eating the way you are used to. He is happier at home.

I'm sorry he's still in the hospital. It does sound like they are getting to the root of his problems, and that is a good thing. I'm sorry he had a stroke and has heart problems. I will add him to my prayer time. He's looking good in the picture.

Your husband looks good, I hope he will be send home soon, being in hospital is not funny. My husband had his carotid arteries tested last month, he is 71 and the doctor wanted to check. They say he has the carotids of a 35 years old man. I know that he always eats healthy.

Our husbands are the same age, friend. Bob's carotids are good, his cholesterol and triglycerides are good. The stroke may be the side effect of a heart problem he did not know about.

He has been so proud not to be on any prescriptions at his age, and really, his numbers in his blood work are to be envied. Yes, the first picture was while he was being evaluated. He was scared and miserable. Second picture is after a day or two of rest.
