Mostly Harmless

This has been driving me crazy for some time now: my kids can't seem to hang up the bathroom towels when they're done drying their hands. Every time I walk into the bathroom I find the fresh bath towel I just hung, lying limp behind the toilet (our towel hanger is above the toilet) or crumpled in front of the bathtub (alternate towel hanging is over the tub, on the curtain rod). I get it. They're short people and they can't always reach to hang it back up. I've told them to ask for help, but they never do. I've told them to grow longer arms and they refuse to do that as well. Instead, I continue to play the game: "Guess If This Towel Is Wet, Urinated On, or Clean?" So we're constantly washing towels. Towels that, generally, have just been cleaned. sigh. I'm going to have to figure out a solution to this problem because you never know when you're going to have to do some "interstellar hitchhiking" and I'm afraid we'll be completely towel-less in such an event...

Why not to buy a free standing towel rack to place near the sink? You can find many on Amazon starting from about $15.

Our main bathroom is sooooo tiny...the door hits the toilet when you open it and there's basically enough space for a person to turn around. Otherwise I'd love to get a towel rack. Ah, perhaps someday when we're able to move and have a larger bathroom.

@Genipher I see, if there is no space I can understand. We had a very tiny bathroom when we lived in France.

Thanks. My time here might be sporadic and rare, though. We're expecting a baby next month and then I'll have less time on my hands. It's been fun looking around and checking on everyone, though.

This is your discussion after so many months.Welcome back.I think you can ask them not to try to hang it back .They can bring it out and place it on a chair in the room. You are there to replace it.

Well, anytime I can make a post and include tidbits from the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a win in my book. We need to get some serious training started in the towel department; the chair is a good idea.

I can't believe you are back but didn't let me know, Genipher! (I really did miss you!) It seems simple to me... just put up another "auxiliary" towel rack suitable for little bodies and arms! THEN, when the towel is found in the floor you can go on a witch hunt and burn the offending child at the stake! (Not too well done, though! We still want them moving and screaming, please! )

@Genipher Hiding in the shadows is right! (I am not sure whose discussion I was on when I noticed you, but I know I was looking at older discussions when I did see your avatar! LOL!) At any rate, I am very happy you can spare a bit of time now to come and play. I do understand 'mom duties' will start again for you presently, though. Uhm... you did notice I left you some special stuff in your pm's, didn't you? I wrote to you right after you said you were leaving. I suppose I wrote it after you actually left, though I had hoped you were still hanging around for a bit more.

I didn't let anyone know. I just snuck back like a ninja and waited to see who'd notice I was hiding in the shadows.

Time for a roll of paper towels and a waste basket @Genipher . Either that or don't put any towels up and when they ask where it is, just say, "Well, I don't know; what did you do with the last one?"

Why is it that simple solutions elude me? This is a great idea...as long as the 2-year-old doesn't get it in his head to unroll the paper towels like he (occasionally) does with the t.p...

My kids used to do the same thing! Now they finally hang them up after taking a shower. They used to say I used it so it's dirty. I told them you were clean after you got out of the shower, you can use it one more time!

howdy, stranger! great to see ya back. i recall those days 'f young'uns who couldn't reach to replace the towels. i finally convinced 'em to jest lay 'em 'cross the edge 'f the sink. 'n a positive note, if'n the towels 're awry, ya know they're washin' their hands, eh?
