Now they are trying to confuse me.

Yesterday I received a telephone call from the hospital about my forthcoming scan, which we agreed on being 3-15 PM on Monday. Today I got 2 letters from the hospital confirming the appointment, but one was for 3-15 PM and the other was for 9-15 AM. I could understand if the time was entered wrong or the appointment had been changed, although it clearly cannot be at two different times on the same day. Now I shall have to contact the hospital for confirmation, which I am not happy about because I hate using the telephone while my voice is so bad. Of course if I do not then there is a chance that I shall be accredited with failing to attend an appointment.

Is there anyone at all that could phone for you? Of all things...Yes because you have to call. Oh dear.

Miscommunication! My doc and my dentist both have a service which calls me the day before the appointment to confirm. Glad to see @TiarasOceanView suggest having someone call for you. I hope you get it all straightened out, medical issues are enough of a pain without all this trouble piled on top.

I agree, uncertainty is not really what I want as far as appointments are concerned.

I think you should ask someone to make the call, try not to stress your vocal chords.

A shame you cannot get them via an instant messaging service, or at the very least, e-mail...

Email would be ideal, but they never seem to supply such contact details.

Odd that they were calling you and then finally sent the letter as you expected all along. Are they thinking that the tumors found throughout your system is what caused your throat issues or i wonder whether that is something else entirely? I met someone that never fully regained the full use of her vocal chords after having laryngitis a few winters ago, but I don't think she had an ongoing sore throat along with it.

It was the vocal chords that directed the specialist to arrange a scan. He said that the chords did not seem damaged, so he suspected that the data input from the brain was being blocked. It now appears likely that one of the tumours is pressing against the nerve that would be used to transmit the information.

@MarshaMusselman The cancer is definitely well established by now. Over the past year I have had several symptoms, which I have always rationalised as minor, such as pains in my back and chest or increasing tiredness. Looking back I can see that this reached a significant level around January. I was enjoying regular holidays in my retirement until then. Early January I went to Tenerife and then Cyprus late January. The last few days in Cyprus I was very ill and have had no desire to travel since. The recent diagnosis really joined the dots for me.

@Asylum Shoot, that doesn't sound good, but people beat cancer each day even when expectations aren't very high. I hope this is but a pebble in the road for you and that you can beat the odds whatever they might be.

Or you can just show up at 9:15 and demand to be seen as per requested.

@Jeanniemaries It needed sorting in advance because if I appeared to miss an appointment they would terminate the treatment.

There is no way to tell which letter was sent off first I presume? Perhaps the 9:15 was an error, and the 3:!5 was the correction. Of course, if this was the case, it would be nice if they would have noted that in the second letter. I presume the 9:15 AM couldn't possibly be for blood drawing? I know that doctors generally like to get the patients blood drawn (especially if following up on new medication) first and then see them second. Of course, atleast here, most of those type of appointments are followed shortly after by the consultation (and not hours after).

@ScribbledAdNauseum Theoretically it would result in the treatment being cancelled, so my doctor would then have to refer me again. Not only would this result in a lot of lost time, but I would have to start with a camera up my nose and down my throat again.

Both letters refer to the scan. In fact, apart from the time the letters are identical and even arrived together in the post. I am assuming that the 9-15 AM is an error, but it may also have been entered into the system.

@Asylum I see the conundrum then. Well I hope that you can get it sorted out so you aren't wasting your time or theirs. Over here, we can also incur a fee if we don't give proper notice to the doctor's office of a cancellation. I'm not sure how it would work out with it being the (technical) fault of the doctors' though.

They are testing you to the limits it seems - why is it when ones voice is lost, or one cannot speak, everyone wants an answer. (I give you an example - I am in the toilet - comes a loud shout from daughter - "MOM, Jenny's at the front door and she wants to know where her old books are?" ) really

The right time must be 3-15 PM because that was agreed on the telephone, but if an appointment has been entered for 9-15 AM then failing to attend would cancel my whole treatment.
