Five dollars is equivalent Shillings 500 in my country. It can buy 4kg of sugar, 8kg of wheat flour or 5kg rice. One can buy a cheap shirt with 5 dollars and second hand cheap shoes. It used to be much but now itbhas detoriatated in value. What can five dollars buy in your area?

1 loaf of decent bread, possibly a used shirt, pair of used shoes. And so on.

The exchange varies in the Caribbean islands , but on my island with $5 I can buy a fish burger with the works and a drink at Burger king - leaving me with a bit of change. Or I can buy two large loaves of wholewheat bread or two flip flops.

@stbrians In Guyana $5 is little over $1,000 - but I have no idea what that can buy now since I haven't lived there for many years.

10 kg mangoes seem too many. We buy 35 mangoes with that money.

Well, five dollars will not buy much in the USA. Maybe a hamburger, fries and a Coke at McDonald's or 5 cheap items in stores where everything is a dollar.
