The Horse's Deskie challenge!

A year or two ago--I can't remember if it was on MyLot or "the site that will not be named"--someone came up with the idea of the "shelfie." Instead of being self-absorbed, and sharing pictures of ourselves trying to look like we're having a better time than you are, we shared pictures of our bookshelves. You can tell a lot about a person by what's on their bookshelves: what kinds of books they read, how organized they are, whether they prefer CDs or records, how often they dust, and so on. The other day, I decided to take a "deskie." It's my view of the world from my desk, as I sit here MyLotting (and doing other things as well). Actually, this is what I see if if look slightly to my left. If I look slightly to my right, I see lush trees in Summer, and Mount Diablo (where I do a lot of my hiking) in the distance the Winter. What can you tell about me from this "deskie"? Do you have a deskie that would tell us something about you and your world?

It was on the site that cannot be named and I even remember who started the "shelfie", he was Johnny Dodd. Here is a photo of my desktop, on the right the working place of my husband, on the left my computer, my scanner and printers.

@TheHorse Most of the time we work at the same time. Right now he is working at his computer near me.

It looks very organized. Do you sometimes work at the same time? That would be fun.

@LadyDuck Tell him hello. Do you discuss your respective "projects" as you work away?

I don't have a desk, honestly. I use the dining room table.

I wish I could make it big enough to read the titles but did I see one or two Little Golden Books on that shelf with the smaller, thinner books? I recognize that style of painting on the right, I think. It makes me think of the impressionists, I like that style. Your shelfie tells me you are interested in a LOT of things both cerebral and athletic, artistic and practical. In short, you are a well rounded and interesting person even if you are messy (clothes on the couch).

@TheHorse I really like Kellerman's Alex Delaware and Milo Sturgis combination. It's always a treat when a new book in the series comes out! Did you read his book Savage Spawn: Reflections on Violent Children? It was interesting but didn't answer a lot of my questions. I actually ordered it from Amazon and I never buy books (although I borrow quite a lot of them from the library).

@TheHorse Thanks, I looked up those characters and the books sound like something I would enjoy. Thanks in advance for the new and different worlds!

@dragon54u I haven't read that one! I like Alex Delaware, but my main men are Jim Chee and Joe Leaphorn.

Everything in my house needs dusting! I just vacuumed, but there's more to be done. Fine "sawdust" everywhere here from speaker work. I hope you'll attach a picture once you're done.

It's fun to have a visual image of where others do their MyLotting. I assume that some do it "on the go." But I don't.

Well since I am in my home office, where the desk is, its minimal as I look over the the desk I see the thread mill, I used to use it daily then I got Harley and I walk him just about daily now so I have not used it, Tony has a couple times since chemo. Yes this room could use a good cleaning. Here is one bookshelf not much has changed since this photo, the other side also have a bookshelf and it has a few more book, teaching me things books.

The difference between my 'shelfie' now and one before the Purge of 2014 would be monstress. Had so many books and CDs. Now I have very few. So what would that tell about me?

That you're smarter than I am about getting rid of stuff you don't need? I should do a purge now that my semester is over.

You're pretty neat and tidy except for those clothes lying around... But I understand, I am constantly picking up after my husband who would just do the same when he gets home.

That you probably have a splendid collection of record albums, you enjoy reading, have a collection of speakers ( that I knew already) you lack the energy to put your clothes away properly , you or someone you are close to plays sports and you like earth tones.

hmm, what can i tell? that'cher relatively a neat person with a love 'f music, yer athletic (jest look't those trophies!) 'n somehow a 'beige' person. i'd not 'xpected the latter, lol. i've shared my 'deskie' prior'n that 'other place' 'n the view aint changed thankfully 's such looks out 'nto my sanctuary. perhaps i could take one lookin' towards the dinin' room? that which's been takin' o'er with the quiltin' I've been 'ttemptin' to do? nah, that'd be cruel, lol.

You have some balance - your speakers give the room balance. You have some clutter - the clothes lying on the couch or bed, not sure which, and some disorganization with the bookshelf. Your books and albums aren't standing up, but are leaning against each other. No uniformity there. You even have books on top of books. I would say you're a pretty well rounded person - not perfect, just you.

To me it looks like you are a person who likes his sports, music and books. As for you clothes, what's going on? It loos like some folded and ready to put away clothes and some already worn clothes. It looks like my husbands pile. My deskie is filled with books, some for pleasure, some for research, some for information about crafts and recipes. They are kind of mixed together even though I try to organize them.

They are all of the above. My "teaching pants" I wear only for "formal" occasions. I wash them once in awhile. Like yours, my stuff is kind of all mixed together, in spite of my occasional efforts to "organize."

There are lots of trophies for baseball so you obviously are good at it. It also shows the you have a love for music aND reading and that you are carefree and somewhat organized.

City League softball was a big part of life for many years. Now, I'm on two teams, but I don't care that much if I miss a game or two. Do you have a good deskie?
