Are you aware that there were "4 million deaths attributed to being overweight in 2015"? I wasn't aware of the scope of this health issue. I find that shocking. Do you? What is the cause? What we put into our body, in particular white sugar and the lack of exercise! Are you aware to beware the sweet and the lazy? The problem is serious. The solution is not a mystery. Are you determined to do something about it?
More people are dying from weight-related illness, even though they are not clinically "obese".

It's one of the things that ticks me off the most @1hopefulman . There is no excuse and when I see a 7-yr-child that weighs 100 pounds, it makes me mad.

I can see why you would feel that way! More needs to be done to educate parents and children on the principles of health.

@1hopefulman Parents are more interested in shoving their kids in front of a computer, Ipad, cellphone, TV; than to have them go out and play. And of course, why cook a home-made meal when you can just go to McDonalds, Sonic, Kentucky Fried Chicken, etc.

@nanette64 While the present situation is sad, those who make the changes will benefit. We can hope!

White sugar ,junk food, soft drinks and eating high calorie food are so bad for us. If we can't those things very frequently then we are bound to get obese. We can call those food as the silent killers. Physical exercises are a must today.

@1hopefulman Let us just hope so. Nowadays there are commercials which manage in persuading people to have fast food

@Nawsheen Maybe there should be commercials telling people to eat healthy and to do more exercise also.

I've started making a change in my life. I try to get to the pool every day, though the last few days have been impossible, but I'm hoping to be there again tomorrow I've changed my diet as well. I don't eat or use white sugar any longer. After my knee replacement surgery I'm hoping to do even more than I've been able to lately.

I'm well aware of our overweight population. Fat is a health hazard.

I wasn't aware and was shocked that so many people die each year because of the hazard. I hope more people take action so that they don't become a statistic.

@1hopefulman So do I hope so. But I look at over eating as an addiction and it's hard to break an addiction.

@RubyHawk Yes, it is hard but no impossible. One can still overeat but if one does it on vegetables like a lot of greens they will not gain weight.

Fast food and Crisco grease has ruined us. We Can live without it and cook healthier with less salt and more veggies and fruity things. It's easy. We're so used to convenience.

Did you ever hear that they put some chemicals in the food to make us addictive to the wrong foods?

@1hopefulman yes, like McDonald's burgers and potato chips, and candy, and sweet cereal and everything sweet. And I am addicted to them all , especially mcd's fries, and every junk food that there is. But I'm starting to cut back.

Well, I have lost over 80 pds and my Blood Sugars went way out of control which is an interesting concept to prove Diabetes is not a weight thing. But I am sure being overweight does put a lot of extra Stress on ones body, especially their heart. The biggest issue is that the lower carb and better for you foods out there are usually not the cheapest so that makes for a big factor for sure.

I'm no expert! But from what I have read from what I consider reliable sources is that the fat in our diet may the culprit in diabetes.

Sugar is very addictive and causes so much harm - I read that cancer cells love sugar, especially the white sugar is acidic - while eating alkaline food can kill even the cancer cells. Our body can't handle the extra sugar, and changes it to fat..and stores it inside us..

I am not greatly overweight, I don't have sugar every day except of course the bit that might be in food and I do try to be as active as possible. The best thing for me is that I have a two-story house so I go up and down the stairs quite often during the day.

Eating too much sugar is seriously a major problem... but it is so addictive...trying to cut back as well. I have a weakness for chocolate. I want that self control to eliminate it completely from my diet.

I have a job that puts me inside and outside at very high temperatures. It is physical labor. I am so tired, and my body is so sore when I am done. In one way, I suppose that is good. In another way, it isn't. I makes me thirsty--not hungry so much. My problem is the only beverage that quenches my thirst is Pepsi. I have quit it before, but now I am back on it. It is so hard to quit. Today...I told myself that I would not open another bottle again for a long time after this bottle is empty.

@1hopefulman I don't see that at this time. I don't have high sugar, and never have. However, I think I could make better choices because I know better.
