Whether you like it or not, numbers rule our lives. Hence, my Favorite "#" Songs series, which is simply songs with numbers (numeric, not spelled out) in the title. Even better, @FourWalls is doing this as well. We are at #5: "Driver 8" by R.E.M. R.E.M.'s third album, 1985's Fables of the Reconstruction, explores the folklore and scenery of the southern region of the United States. The second single from that album, "Driver 8," is a perfect example, celebrating the scenery found along train routes in the deep south, specifically the Southern Crescent (now the Amtrak Crescent.) While it was not released in Europe, "Driver 8" did well enough for itself, reaching #22 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. It's a catchy tune. Peter Buck's guitar riffs are some of alternative rock's finest, and Michael Stipe wasn't mumbling, so you can understand the lyrics and actually get a feel for the rural south. Besides. Who doesn't like songs about trains? (Info verified by Wikipedia)

There's that great song on Chronic Town, "1,000,000." That's not the number song I used by R.E.M. (Yes, we have a match again.)

Good choice and I like songs about trains. It sure helps when you can understand Michael Stipe in this pick.
