Women Pretending To Be Rocks And Trees For a Purpose

I saw another story about a woman who pretended to be a man and fought in the war. I thought maybe this was the one I previously written about here so I went to check. I found another story even more interesting. During World War I female artists joined a highly specialized military group in NY to develop patterns and designs to mimic that of rocks and landscape. This was to help soldiers in the war. Parks became their laboratories and they dressed in camouflage suits. You could take a stroll in the park and be unaware of women dressed with weird camouflaged shapes that were all around you. See pictures from the archives and read about this here:

That's interesting. I'm sure it did help soldiers to decipher the landscape from their disguised enemy. Currently, I just pretend to be a normal person. :)

That certainly is unusual, thanks for sharing. Would have freaked me out had I been the one that stepped on one of them lol

I would too. Scary to jump on a human in camouflage.

Very interesting. With the camouflage it made it easy to blend into the landscape.

That was pretty interesting. If not for some of your posts I would never have known some of these things actually happened.

I never heard about them before and I read this article with interest. It was really the beginning of camouflage, and these clothes would have been uncomfortable on the battle field. It makes me think at the first planes, a few years before WWI : lot of failed attempts, but the success finally came. It looks like a first attempt, and the experience did not probably lasted long enough to create something that could be used by soldiers. In April 1918 the end of the war was not far anyway.

This is really strange but I can see how it benefited many soldiers since then
