Are you a news addict?

I listen to the radio while I'm working on my computer. By working I don't mean surfing, I mean writing, doing surveys, myLot, and other tasks that pay. I listen to the news stations, talk radio both left and right, and also some podcasts of internet only news blogs. Every so often I turn on some music. Right now I'm listening to an internet jazz station. But I always wonder what I am missing, what is happening, will something happen that means I have to fill up my gas tank or add to my food supplies or something? I always want to switch back to the news channels so I guess this means I'm a news addict. I'm going to work on breaking my addiction to news. It rarely affects my life or anyone I know. Short of a nuclear blast, there is nothing I need to react to and if there was such a blast, nothing I did would help anyway. Are you a news addict? Do you need a dose of current news each day in order to feel connected or informed?

Do you find it has made you pessimistic and cynical? It has done that to me. Even when a politician does something admirable I'm always wondering what their ulterior motive is!

@dragon54u - Sometimes I am pretty cynical. But I enjoy the democratic process and like to see if and how it works.

Yes I am. I listen to news stations and talk radio while I am doing my offline work.

@dragon54u With the call in talk shows I get to hear what the ordinary man in the street thinks about everything - politics the economy and life on the whole.

That's how I feel, like I need to be on top of things but I overwhelm myself. I'll have to get into the habit of just checking a few times a day. Your country is in a lot of turmoil right now from outside forces while mine is in turmoil form within. Both our countries are experiencing violence right now on different scales. It's a tough time to break a news habit!

@dragon54u exactly. My news habit drastically changed that moment of violence broke in southern part of my country. I was on vacation on the first day it happened and, I packed my things after two days as it worsened. Thinking about my kids, though we're not close to that area, but still, we can never tell what those demons can do in a minute.

I don't think that I am a news addict but I do check a lot of different online newspapers from other countries and big cities.

You live in an area where weather is important, that's true. I remember my grandpa listening to the forecast then he would go outside and smell the air and look at the sky. Then he'd look at the birds and insects and see how the cows were behaving. He would then pronounce whether the weatherman was right or wrong. Guess what? Grandpa was right more often than the weatherman! The weather forecast here is the same old crap 90% of the time--sunny, no clouds, and HOT. 118 today, 120 tomorrow. I spent the weekend listening to music and I do feel somewhat refreshed. I will try to limit my news today!

More and more! Find myself with the TV on listening to news while I'm working on the computer. Even while I'm reading. If it's not music its news.

Me, too. I'm trying to listen to more music and less news, though. I'm told I'm easier to be around when I haven't been listening to the news!

I used to love listening to music all the time until I became interested in politics and current events. I was happier when I listened to music! Right now Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald are doing a duet and I can't imagine why I would want to change the channel--but I do wonder what is going on in the world! I have to work at this and get back to what's really important and that's definitely NOT the news.

No no me I can watch the evening news and get enough. I prefer no noise when I am writing, or blogging. Sometimes I make to many mistakes when I hear something, I will type that word but I will go watch t.v. with Tony and use the laptop to mylot.

(still laughing about Tony being a man) Me, I need some conversation or some music. Music is becoming more pleasant than the news now, which is good. Too much news about this crazy world can be really depressing!

I think you have the right attitude. We can't do anything about it so why worry? I have to work on this!

Since the last political campaign started, the day Trump came down the elevator, I have turned into a cable news addict, not a good thing. I never liked politics and never paid much attention, but I got very interested this time and am now addicted. I listen as background and try not to scream at my TV too often!

I understand completely. With me, it started in 2008 and since then I've been caught up in all the political poison because of the way it has affected me and can and will affect my children. But what can I do about it? Nothing! Whether we like or dislike the people in office there's nothing we can do so why are we compelled to keep up with the news? I guess it makes me feel less helpless when I know--or think I know--what's going on.
