Spending this evening with much younger men
June 18, 2017 6:50pm CST
I am sitting here watching the clock. I need to run by the commissary for salad greens. I am bringing the salad fixings as my offering to tonight's meal. I also have a key lime pie in the freezer, so I need to buy some whipped cream (in the can). Trader Joe's key lime pie is the best! If I share it, I will not eat it by myself! I am having dinner with several of the young friends I know from our Veterans' Center. One of the young men does a lot of cooking and is making pasta, two types of sauces, and homemade bread. It feels good to be invited as part of this group.

A shared dinner sounds so much fun. We used to have it earlier with friends in our old township. Now, that I live alone my landlady , neighbours and friend calls me over and I sometimes send something special if I cook it. But it's not like we each bring a dish
@CoralLevang pot luck dinners are great because there is no real stress on anybody and it's always among people who are on good terms with one another. Thing is after my hubby's transfer our lives have changed. I came away to a different part of the town near my college. Also most of our good friends have also been scattered due to that dratted transfer policy.
@CoralLevang Not really in small towns and rural areas. But as I said they are common in townships or maybe among the young people staying out in cities. What is very common are dishes being sent across to the neighbours . And also on the spot invitations to stay over and have dinner if it is near dinner time when visitors come Also lots of community feasts India is very diverse...In lifestyles of the urban and small town, rural where everybody knows everybody

It ended up being just three of us. My friend Logan, his roommate Jana, and me. She was quite the talker, and shared a lot about her life at 31. I think it was tough for her because it was Father's day yesterday, and her dad just passed away within the last 2 years. I think that it was supposed to be exactly as it were last night. I taught the two of them how to make a homemade salad dressing right there in the bowl. The one thing that she said as I was making it, " wow! She doesn't buy a bottle of salad dressing!" If I can teach someone how to do these little things, then I'm passing along knowledge in the better things in life!
