unsuccessful Father's Day

Yesterday was HOT (over 106F!) and miserable, and the power went out in our whole neighborhood just as I was about to cook the special dinner I had planned for Father's Day. . We ended up going to a Home Town Buffet which I had never gone to before, and I wish I had found a different option... this place was FILTHY. Shockingly filthy. I'm talking about puddles of brown water standing on the tiles near the beverage area, ice cream from the soft serve machine piled up on the floor where it has run out of the nozzles, more puddles of dirty water near the kitchen entrance, salad dressings mixed together and smeared over the counter in the salad bar, soggy ice cream cones smashed into a pond of sundae syrups at the dessert counter. Then there was the lack of food... I understand that customers eat food, and sometimes there's a little wait before the trays get restocked, but we were waiting for half an hour for many of those trays to get refilled... and the majority of the trays were empty. We had to wait 15 minutes for plates too! There were no plates at all, and people were just wandering around from station to station, looking for any plate whatsoever. I'm not even going to tell you about the restroom. Let's just say that the sign stating that they like to keep their restrooms clean and stocked was seriously ironic. When we got home, the power was back on, but it was time for the kids to go to bed. Not at all the Father's Day I had hoped to celebrate with our family.

That was not good. I am sorry it didnt turned out how you planned. Wondering though about the power interruption, like why would the electric company do that?

It was 106F/41C here yesterday. The transformer just couldn't handle the heat.

Fortunately, none of us got food poisoning. I was a little concerned about that after seeing all the sloppy messes that hadn't been cleaned up.

That was tough. Can't stand dirty restaurants, there is no excuse for it

There really isn't, not to that degree. They did have a sign posted that said they were hiring, but this didn't seem like a matter of being short handed and busy (well, maybe the lack of trays getting refilled in a timely manner would be part of that), but just plain neglect. I wonder what the board of health would have to say.

I wish I had seen how bad it was before we paid, but it was too late by then and I didn't know if I could get a refund. I was so exhausted and frustrated, I don't know where we would have gone instead.

We had discussed originally going to a restaurant but decided to have a nice dinner at home because taking 9 people out to eat is EXPENSIVE. I had the money (fortunately) but was planning to use it for something else.

Oh! that was awful, and the heat. What I would do is plan another celebration day to make up for that disaster.

We'll have to. It was just frustrating because all of his kids were here too.
