Saw Something Disturbing

This morning I looked out my window and saw a woman with a girl of about twelve years old with a leash hooked to a collar around her neck. As they walked along the girl suddenly stopped. The woman, who kept walking for a few steps stopped and said, “No!” The girl laughed and started walking again. I didn’t know if they were just playing around or if the woman felt the girl had to be on a leach. But I felt the way the girl laughed they were just playing around. About an hour later I heard noises and looked out the window. Here the woman and girl sat on a big rock in front of my house. I watched and soon the girl got up. She did not have the leach on. Not very long after the girl got up the woman did too and they walked away. The woman nor the girl had the leach. I think they were taking the leach and collar to someone and thought it would be funny if the girl wore them. Or the girl thought it would be fun to act like a dog. I was quite relieved to see they had just been fooling around.

Yes but they had to know someone would see them and it is rather a weird thing to do.

I think they wanted people to see. It's a prank. They wanted people to react maybe and then laughed at them.

@BelleStarr It's really not funny at all. And people like to do crazy things that aren't funny. But for them it is!

@toniganzon It's not really funny in my opinion and the way things are these days could be viewed as abusive.

That's really disturbing but I think they were trying to prank people and see how they'd react. Crazy.

@toniganzon There was no one with a camera or phone to record it.

I don't think they were trying to prank people because they were looking around as if they were seeing if anyone was watching. I think they were just playing around. I don't think they even knew I was home and many of the neighbors were gone to work at the time.

I know some parents have this leash type thing for their little ones, but not for a 12 year old - and not around the neck! Well good that you found out they were just fooling around - otherwise you'd still be scratching your head! Or maybe what you thought was a 12 year old was actually a big upright hairless dog .

@RichardMeister That would've been my first thought too.

My first thought was the girl was mentally challenge but that still would not be the proper way to keep her under control.

That would have been disturbing if not found later it was in play. I am for the leash harnesses for toddlers but older children would suggest something far more sinister if not just in play like acting as a dog.

@RichardMeister Something like that could be real, however strange! Nothing comes as a surprise these days and the the things people get up to.

Yikes is right. What would have happened if the girl had tripped and fell?

I have seen toddlers with leashes, but they were on back packs or harnesses around their chests. I am glad you figured out this was likely a game.

Yes, I would not have thought twice if it was a harnesses around the girl's chest. I would have thought the girl was mentally challenge and they needed to keep control of her.

What a relief then. It must have got you really worried but what an unusual carry on right in the middle of the Road. Just hope they were only joking around.

I'm sure they were just playing around otherwise the girl would have had the leach on when I saw them the second time.

Yes, it could have been dangerous even though the collar was not a choke collar.

That does sound disturbing. Even fooling around I would hate seeing it around her neck. Glad you got to see them again without the leash around the neck. That would be a bit of a relief.

It's very weird and disturbing to see that kind of act from a parent. I am so relieved that they were just playing.

I know people do put harnesses on small children so they don't lose them in crowds.
