The way your mind works

I bet most of us have noticed that our minds can be odd places, filled with strange connections, and tidbits of the most useless collection of random memories, facts, smells, and tastes. Oh, I know, some of that stuff has a point. But do I really need to remember where I finally learned how to spell the word "left". I do not, but boy do I remember. Why? I have no idea why that stuck in my head. I'd be ok with just knowing how to spell it! Anyways, if you don't believe me, try this. Think of the word pickle. Did your mouth water? Can you hear the crunch of biting into one? Many people's mouths water when they think of a crunchy pickle. I love the ones that come on sticks at fairs and stuff. Or what about cookies? Can you smell them now in the oven. And...now I am craving one! What about you? What associations can you find in your brain? Or at least one's associated with pickles? Bwahaha! I don't know about you, but my mind is like a random assortment of things, tied together with this weird spider web of attachments. I think pickle, my mouth waters, which makes me think of eating said pickles at a fair, which reminds me of the last renaissance fair I went with, with J, where I ate a pickle. This reminds me of how much I loved going to faires....and PARTICIPATING in them as staff.... and the friends I used to do that with...and now I am sad. Please brain, don't make me associate pickles with sad!!!!

I remember reading somewhere just how many thoughts go through our mind on any given day. We should be exhausted by the time night arrives!!

Oh my goodness, that is quite a progression from pickle to sad. I am sure my brain does the same but I don't have an example. Sounds like it is time to round up some friends and go to a faire!

When I think of pickles I think of my grandmother's pickle relish. So good with pearl onions and just the right amount of cloves. It is odd how you think of one thing which leads you on to other things.

my mind meanders all over - remembering things from years ago as if they happened yesterday, bits from books, random songs, etc

Okay, enough! My mouth is watering. You have all five senses going nuts at the same time, and add to that with the sourness of pickles my brain jumped to lemons. Now that's got me puckered as well.

My favorite smells are popcorn, cotton candy and vanilla. These smells evoke fond memories for me

The associations our mind makes with memories and the tastes that come with them is strong - but please try and make a new HAPPY memory with pickles rather

lol, that was an example, I'm not that sad really, it's too hot to go to faires atm anyways. I had pickles on dinner last night, and will for lunch again today as I eat up some leftovers

About the only time I think of pickles is when I am making a sandwich. I can be reminded of a really good loaf of bread or cookies really easily when on a long walk.

well your mind may go the route of a smell or a sound or a sight triggering a memory!

Yes the power of suggestion is very strong. You used pickle because that is good memories for you, I always used lemons when I wanted someone to have a mouth watering pucker. Music often does this memory triggering for me. The mind is a strange place, its not an egg being fried in a skillet

Oh, lemon makes my mouth water too! Sometimes I find smells do the memory triggering thing. There is a cheap cologne that a high school boyfriend wore. I smell it and I always have his face flash into my mind (when I haven't even thought about him in decades otherwise!)
