Leave a Laptop Unattended and See How Fast a 2 year-old Can Mess it Up!

I put my laptop down for 1 minute to run to the backroom for a diaper and a washcloth. One measly minute!! When I came back Pinterest was up on the screen and the search bar had a p going across it. The p didn't stop. It was as if the laptop had been taken over! I tried everything I could possibly do to fix the problem without throwing the dang thing outdoors and into a puddle. I sent a message to my daughter and she told me to take the battery out and reboot the laptop. Holding my breath, my husband removed the battery and replaced it. I rebooted the laptop and waited. It worked! I was thrilled! My main worry was that I would have to bring it to a shop to have it fixed. Glad that I didn't need to. Next time, I will close out of everything and put the computer into sleep mode. Or maybe take the dang thing with me. LOL.

I had that happen many years ago with my desktop pc. My then 2-year old daughter climbed up in the chair when I was folding laundry and started banging away on the keyboard. I figured there wasn't anything she could possibly mess up, but next thing I know the entire computer was frozen up! Luckily, my brother is a genius when it comes to computers, and I just called him to come over and fix the problem. Not sure what he did, but he got it working again.

I tried everything I could think of to stop the unstoppable p. Nothing worked. My daughter wasn't entirely certain removing the battery would work. Glad it did!

@moffittjc I didn't either. Was glad she suggested it.

@ElusiveButterfly I would have never thought to take the battery out and put it back in!

sounds like you may wanna take a can of air to the keyboard part too. and that she may, when money allows, need a leappad that gets used with supervision so she can start learning to use things like that lol!!!

She has a couple of devices that she plays with. None are a complete unit though. Her mother brought them over for her. She does have a tablet that she listens to music on and also has some short videos she likes.

I think they have tablets at our schools, but not every classroom has them.

@ElusiveButterfly they learn so young, the schools here use tablets for all kinds of things, once the initial cost is over, it's cheaper than buying books and stuff, since you dont have wear on the books, and the kids ipads are fairly sturdy, with their cases and all

Good thing that your daughter had a good idea and it worked. We definitely have to keep an eye on what the kids do with some things.

Lesson learned. I remembered to turn off the computer when I had to go check on dinner.

When a Mercedes is delivered to your door tomorrow, what will you tell your 2-year-old?

@ElusiveButterfly Don't worry. It will probably be just a Ford.

@TheHorse My husband would be delighted. He is a Ford man. We have an F150 and an Explorer now.

I have the same problem with the dogs, they walk across my keyboard and cause all sorts of havoc and I can't figure out what they did. I can usually undo it but it is good to know that taking the battery out will cure some things.

I would probably put a password on it just to keep them from using it.

There is a password on it. I didn't shut it off before I set it down. She is too quick and her curiosity gets the best of her.

We scold her every time she tries to be a little sneak and go near the technology. We tell her we will watch her dvd together. That usually works.

Lol...you poor thing! It really doesn't take long for a little one to get into something. I learned quickly that when my kids were quiet, I needed to go check to see what they were doing.

I had forgotten about that one. A few days ago I was zoned out in my rocking chair and it was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. Yup, she was into mischief.

Or you could close the lid and put it up on something high enough and out of their reach, just so it isn't something they'd try to climb. If you could move it without them seeing where it went would be the best.

This child never misses a beat. You think that you have moved something out of her range of vision and lo and behold she has it in her hand. She also likes the remote control and our cell phones.
