Surprises at the pump

We do a lot of shopping at Ingles and as a card holding member we get special prices on items. But what my husband likes even better is their fuel rewards program. For every $100 a month you spend at Ingles you get 10 cents off a gallon of gas. The rewards are only good for one month, you can't 'hord' them. Yesterday we got gas at their station in Athens. The price was $1.83 a gallon, which is comparable to most of the other station in the area. But we had over 400 reward points so we got our gas for $1.43 a gallon. We got 20 gallons of gas and saved $8. Why is the price of gas dropping? The reason is simple. According to AAA there is an abundance of cheap oil and it's being turned into cheap gas and that is good for drivers. The attached article explains it better. Look for prices in the US to continue dropping. Photo from Pixabay
Falling gas prices give drivers a cheap start to the summer.

We have a gas rewards program here at our Giant supermarket and it does help when you can get a deduction in the price of gas. Currently our gas prices are $2.11 with no discount card.

We have been below two bucks at most stations for a while. We were 30 points short of getting .50 off a gallon!

The prices here haven't dropped that much, yesterday I went to a shell station and was charged $2.25 a gallon of regular. I wonder why it's so expensive here.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes that is what concerns me when I go to live in the forest one day. But when I go there, I won't be coming back here so I don't care if I have a car.

We have a similar plan with our grocery store, we get discount coupons for gasoline every 100 Swiss Francs (it is more or less 105$), we also get points every time we use our credit card, so it's easy to get many discount coupons.

@AbbyGreenhill They send the booklet of coupons at home, it's not a big problem to keep the booklet in the car.

I like the 'card' thing so I don't have to worry about coupons, it's automatic, no thinking involved LOL!

@LadyDuck When I leave a coupon in the car I never remember to take it inside the store. I am so used to not using them.

lower gas prices really do help the budget! We have something similar here in town, usually get our gas at Caseys, but whenever we have a discount from the grocery store, we swing by them

We usually have to get gas a regular price at least once during the month, more often if we're traveling around.

That is quite a deal. Is Ingles a grocery store? We have a rewards card for Winn-Dixie, a grocery store, here in Florida that does the same type of thing.

@HazySue I just wish the Ingles closer to us had the gas station - it's a hike for us to get the gas.

Yes, it's a grocery store - in TN, NC, not sure where else. It is our best option w/o having to drive two hours.

Prices are inconsistent all over town (which, in my opinion, is how they should be: I'm suspicious of ten different companies all charging the exact same amount for gas...but Congress only worries about it when three different cereal companies charge the same amount for raisin bran...). I saw it as low as $2.16 last night on the way home. Get out of the city, where we're mandated to use reformulated gas, and it's even lower.

In a small town like Athens, the stations are in competition since they are right off I-75. In my little Hubble of a town the boonies the pries are higher $1.95 but we only have three stations.
