~The Bread Winner Might Be Changing~

Good morning everyone. I hope your doing well. Yesterday was a really good day...until last night. There is something serious wrong with my husband's back. He fell and literally could not get up. I had to help him up and help him get into bed.
He doesn't have insurance anymore so this is really bad.
The hospitals around here don't do much without insurance, so he didn't want to go about his back....again for the 3rd time. I knew his body was much older than he actually is for a long time now. I just didn't think things would get so bad this soon.
So, in conclusion if his back continues to get worse the bread winner in this family will be changing. Gosh, this isn't what I expected but I love my husband and my family enough to do what needs to be done.
The same thing happened to my mother around my age-she had to go to work to support our family because my dad fell down icy steps on his back. Never wanted my parents life but that is exactly what I have...
So, for those of you that pray--he needs a lot of prayers please!

What is your plan? Are you going to go to work? Would he be able to take care of the kids/house?

I don't know about the medical system there, here there are govt hospitals where treatment is free.

That is sad about your husband. He doesn't have medicaid? I would think that all of you would be eligible. I hope he gets better soon.

@LovingMyBabies Check for low cost or free clinics..A big area like Jacksonsville has to have some resources.

@DianneN We have spoke to the hospitals in the past and they will put you on a payment plan-never free. We barely make ends meet now. And he really needs a specialist which we really cannot afford.

Having a bad back myself, I have some idea of the pain he's in. I was about 19 the first time I couldn't get off the couch to go to bed. My mother had to help me up the stairs. It's no fun, for sure. Hope he feels better after some rest.

I'm sorry to hear that his back is bothering him so badly.
Ever since I broke my back when I was a teenager, I have suffered with back issues.
You are a team, and if one member cannot do as they once did, I think that its great that the other one picks up the lead. It may not be what you wanted, but it isn't what he wanted either to suffer like that. Work together, you'll get thru it, and I'll keep you in my prayers.

@Juliaacv Thank you. Yes I have worked before for a few years when my husband was out of work so I will do it again when needed.
He went to work today but I don't know how much longer he will be able to.

Oh my god Jen, I'm so sorry! You guys just can't catch a break these days. And yes, without having insirance, its not easy to want to go see a doctor. But he really should :(

@Courtlynn He needs to see a specialist for his back, get an MRI or something like that. It's not affordable or free for that. We can't afford another bill.

Oh boy. I would get out there and start looking for a job now. It can be really difficult to actually find one, especially one that pays more than minimum wage. Also definitely find out what happened to the Medicaid. If you guys are really in such tight circumstances, you should be eligible for that. That is what it is there for.

@NJChicaa I am planning on it. I called Medicaid and we can't make more than $500 per month with 7 people in the house to qualify for it. My husband makes $2,000 a month-which $1,000 goes straight to rent but they don't care about that.

I'm really sorry that this is happening. I hope that his back does get better. Sometimes, we just have to do what we have to do for our families. I started working again last fall, for that same reason. My husband was having a hard time finding work. Hopefully, your husband's back gets better and you guys can figure something out.

@LadyDuck Thank you. With no education, he can't. He didn't even graduate high school so not too many jobs without having to lift or bend when you have no education.
