amazing

That's what I am. Amazing. This wasn't stated, but it was implied. I left my appraisal with a beam of huge proportions on my ugly mug. And yet, I feel a twinge of guilt and sadness too. I have been worrying about my appraisal for the last few weeks, trying to put it off by avoiding my Line Manager and keeping busy. Then she finally took my into an empty classroom yesterday and my nightmare began. She'll mention this! they said. She'll accuse you of that! they said. She was really mean! they said. She just concentrates on the negatives! they said. Would you like to know my only negative? Can you guess what it is? It's not even a real negative. It's something that my school and education reports, from the age of five until I completed my degree and subsequent teaching qualification, always mentioned. I can tell you that my positives are that I'm conscientious, calm, patient, understanding, independent, a team-player ... I develop and build good relationships with my students and other staff. I am organised and able to solve my own problems. I have been a pleasure to have on her team. In short, I am amazing. My one flaw? I'm quiet. I'm too quiet. One of my targets for the next year is to be able to contribute more in team meetings. I kid you not. So, I spent weeks panicking and getting stressed about something which turned out to be nothing but a pleasant discussion betwixt myself and my not-so scary Line Manager. And I feel sad and guilty because my friends didn't have such good appraisals. But you know why that is, don't you? Because I am quiet. Ssshhh. Keep your head down, don't talk to your Line Manager, always look busy ... I know ALL the tricks! Phew.

I like a peaceful working environment. If you are comfortable, then it is fine.

@Poppylicious I guess it is fine to be sociable to others.

I am comfortable. I will not be made to feel uncomfortable for just being me. :)

This is something I also heard, I am too quiet. I prefer to be too quiet than too noisy and to talk too much.

Being quiet means that we observe and listen more. That has to be a good thing!

Thanks. I am just extremely happy that it's over and I don't have long until I can relax for the summer. :)

@poppylicious This being too quiet and not contributing is a curious one. My observation is that all the wrong people have far too much to say and I (one of the painfully quiet ones) who have only sensible things to contribute, remain mute. Well done on being well appraised.

I know. It's as though being quiet is a weakness. I wonder if people who contribute too much in team meetings are given a target of shutting up!

Thanks! I am relieved it's over for another year. I actually like people who talk and contribute a lot because it means I don't have to, and I can just enjoy being QUIET!

I am like you, too quiet. And there was time I got in trouble for not speaking, or contributing, during meetings. But what do I need to say now? Whatever I want to say others have said it for me.... Don't worry, each one of us is different. At least you know that you have positive strenghts.

That does tend to be the case ... someone else gets in first, or what I could say isnt really important enough for everybody else to hear. It's ridiculous that we feel bad for being quiet!

@Poppylicious so we pretend to keep ourselves busy, or not looking at anyone...
