Summer: Is 78 degrees cool enough for you?

United States
June 23, 2017 6:28am CST
I was reading in a newsletter that indicated the Department of Energy thinks you should keep your temperature at 78 if you are home. That is hot! If I am not at home, how high should the temperature be? They recommend that---do they keep it set at 78 in their offices? Now, I realize that not everyone here is from the USA. I remember when my Mom was alive, she had clients from here from Africa during the summer, and they liked to take walks. They wore layers upon layers of clothing because they were used to the heat. Thus, 78 may even seem a little cold for them. Is 78 degrees just right for you?

Air Conditioners and Central Air tends to run a little different than normal. At least that's what I found. What seems too hot is actually supposed to be the right temp for A/C. However, when I had a room A/C I set it at 60 and was just fine with that. I like it cool to cold when it's hot outside. As for 78 that's on the warm side.

Wow! Sixty sounds wonderful. I have central air, and I love cold temperatures. I never pray for summer! LOL

@MsBooklover Pray for summer? I haven't lost my mind yet. It's 26 weeks until Christmas. That's also 26 weeks until winter.

No way, I need my house to be set at 74. That is a perfect temp. Any warmer and it gets to feel like a desert in here.

78 degrees inside is too warm for me. That's sometimes what our AC is because it can't keep up with this Florida heat. I sit inside and sweat. I put the fan on when it gets to that temp and that makes it a tiny bit cooler.

Depends what I'm acclimated to. When I lived in a very hot place 80F (26.6C) was comfortable and I hardly ever used any air conditioning at home. Generally, I start getting chilly at 70F (21C).
