Beach Huts at Gouville-sur-Mer, Normandy, France

Last night there were perhaps 30 camping cars/motor-homes lined up along the seashore at Gouville-sur-mer in Normandy, France. Just up the beach a few hundred metres are a number of colourful huts where people use as change rooms before they go swimming. With the different colour rooves these look very bright. There is also a big dark cloud on the horizon but I don’t know if rain is forecast or not. Vince met a fellow photographer who had very little English but they managed to communicate and compare cameras etc. The three of us went to photograph the huts and I was able to make myself understood enough to have a nice, if stunted, conversation so I was pretty pleased about that. Although I might know the words I wonder about my pronunciation but he seemed to understand relatively well. It was nice to have someone to practise on.

Normandy is cold most part of the year, we also have beach huts in Italy to change before and after swimming. I was surprised that in many parts of the world there is no place where to change.

@JudyEv Those are the ones we have in Italy. They are more or less all the same and we have them on every beach.

There are beach huts at Brighton in Victoria and they are much photographed. I don't know of any others in Australia but there could be some.

@LadyDuck these are very lovely too. I can't believe how many motor-homes are on the road here.

I have found the local people in France quite forgiving of my less than perfect pronunciation. I love those huts. Let the adventures continue lol

@BelleStarr No-one spoke English but a visitor there had worked for some years in America and she was able to explain. She then left and our electric cord connections weren't the right ones so they adapted one of our plugs to give us power. Vin pretended to pack up their tools with his own which caused a big laugh. It's funny sometimes how things work out.

We pulled into what we thought was a farm-house 'gite' affair but they don't normally have motor-homes - or so it seems. But we're parked in their front yard, no worries.

What a great photo, pretty how they line the coast like that. I think that its wonderful, although I am not surprised, how you could communicate over something in common like that.

When I first saw the photograph, I thought they were little toy houses! They almost don't look real from a distance, as if they were game pieces from a Monopoly game board! But they are beautiful! Is that a part of Normandy where the Allied troops stormed the beaches during WWII?

Nice pics of the beach huts. I know what you mean about the French. One time we got lost in Montreal, and we were trying to get directions from somebody who spoke about as much English as I speak French which was limited for both..However, we managed to communicate!

In Austria, with my very limited German, I asked someone for help and they went out of their way to make sure we got what we needed. I'm sure that guy was an angel in disguise.

Those beach huts are quite common at English seaside resorts. I can get by with French too, but the accent probably leaves a lot to be desired.

Only a few places in Australia have these huts. I'm not sure why there aren't more of them. Do you hire them or buy them?

I received your post card from Ireland. Thank you very much. I hope you are having a wonderful time. So, were you in Ireland and also France? I need to look at some of your recent posts. I've been at my son's house in North Carolina for ten days. Just got back home last night. Trying to catch up with everyone.

A few days away can make a great difference here can't it? We had about 10 days in Ireland now 2 months in France and perhaps Spain then another 3 weeks in Ireland.

@DianneN - Yes, we have also found that people in other countries like to try their English out with us ... and they are very patient when we try to use a variety of languages. Once, in Paris, a foreign woman was trying to figure out the train system. She didn't speak French or English, but she did speak Spanish, so we were able to help her. LOL
