Not How I Wanted to Spend My Saturday Morning

I'm having horrible pain and swelling in my left leg. Since I've been laying around most days since my surgery, I'm worried that I may have developed a blood clot. So, I guess I'd better go to the ER to have it checked out. I was hoping I wouldn't have to make any ER trips after this surgery, but this pain is worrying me. I wish there was an urgent care I could go to instead of the ER. But there's not, none that are within my network, anyway, so the ER is my only option. I hope it's nothing and I hope I don't wind up being there all day. I have to wait till 8 am for my dad to get up so I can ask if he'll take me. Plus there's no point in going now, as they don't have ultrasound technicians working at night. So I'll wait it out a couple more hours and hope it's not too busy when I get there.

Thank you. It's probably nothing but I'd rather be safe than sorry.

@vsai2008 I will have to try to go later, since my dad wouldn't take me. Maybe it won't be hurting then and I won't need to go.

How far off is 8AM? If that is a blood clot you may want to call the ambulance or cab. As you know clots can kill you.

I know. If I start getting any emergency symptoms (shortness of breath, dizziness, coughing up blood, chest pain) then I will definitely call an ambulance.

I'm wondering if it's muscle cramps, but the fact that it hurts in my calf is what worries me. If I can't get to the ER I'll call my vein specialist first thing Monday morning and see if they can do an ultrasound.

I hope you're at the ER and that it's not a blood clot. Take care!

Not yet, I can't find a ride. It's probably not a blood clot but it's better to be safe than sorry. It might be my muscles cramping up because every now and then I get a little spasm.

I hope you're there by now. Ans they should always have people there working ever part.

Nope, I called my dad to ask him to take me and my mom wouldn't even ask him. She kept claiming it was probably a Charlie horse and told me to drink Gatorade. Our ER is really bad... They've been under state investigation for a couple years. They don't provide adequate care and have killed people from neglect. They are currently merging with some other company, a religious hospital I guess, so I don't know if that means they'll improve or get worse. Nobody in our areas trusts that ER or hospital, but it's the only one around.

@Courtlynn He's asleep right now but he'll probably take me later when he's awake. I was hoping to go early in the day because that's when it's not so busy. If I go in the afternoon, I'll be stuck over there for hours. I really wish there was an urgent care I could go to, because this doesn't feel like an emergency but requires an ultrasound or blood test to make sure it's not one.

Sorry but you have to take this VERY SERIOUSLY. To me it is an emergency. I know all too much about this stuff. Doubt it very much that it is a muscle cramp.

The ultrasound at the ER showed no blood clot so...probably is just muscle cramps. My discharge instructions are to drink lots of fluids.

They have to have an ultra sound tech at night, because it's the ER

Not our ER. I've gone there in the middle of the night for things that required an ultrasound and there was no one there to do it until 8 am. They just stuck me in the waiting room and told me to wait. Our ER sucks.
