The Good Old Days

United States
June 24, 2017 10:17am CST
I just spent the better part of the last half hour shredding a bag full of papers. It got me thinking back to the good old days when we could just throw stuff out and the term identity theft wasn't in our vocabulary. Such a pain to have to go through all this trouble but of course I wouldn't want my identity stolen either. Now it's time for me to get ready to leave for my granddaughters graduation party which is a two hour drive from my house. I'm looking forward to the party and the weather seems to be cooperating...sunshine and blue skies. Hope everyone has a great Saturday!!

Have a lovely time at the graduation party Marilyn! Thanks a bit tired here but doing okay so far. I need a shredder for all my papers...but have yet to be able to purchase one...I keep thinking I may just soak them in bleach and water instead.

that's a very good idea Tiara and since I'm tired of shredding I might just do the same thing

We seem to have to play it safe with everything these days. My parent in laws always spoke of a time when they didn't even lock the doors of their house . . . I would never, ever do that ! Congratulations to your granddaughter for graduating . . . hope you all have a wonderful time at her graduation party with the weather on your side!

When I was growing up we didn't always lock our doors and the windows were always open. My dad would leave the windows open in the car and our bikes would be leaning against the house. It was certainly a different way of life back then.

@Marilynda1225 Such a different world we live in today, right? So vulnerable . . . it's sad we have to protect every little thing but yes, better to do that than to become a victim.

I use to shred papers for my mom over 10years ago. I hated the smell and hated it getting stuck. Enjoy the ride and party.

I find shredding just a huge pain and it's also so messy when trying to empty the container.

Sometimes we "cheat" and put the questionable papers in the barbecue. I do have a new shredder, though and am clearing papers away. Hope the party was a lot of fun.

Burning them in the bbq doesn't sound like cheating to me. Sounds pretty quick and easy!

I had shredding stuff...those little strips of paper get everywhere. I just tear things up if I think they contain sensitive information.

I usually try to consolidate the shredding pile and keep it to where only important stuff goes through the shredder. Other paper stuff just goes into the recycling bin

It's a long way, drive safe and enjoy the party. It's a pain to shred the papers, but I also fear the worst not doing this.

In the good old days we didn't have as much paperwork to worry about.

@Marilynda1225 And its is only recently paperwork is being done away with but then it's all on computer so which is easier for people to use to steal your info?

We bought a paper shredder and shred everything. We should not have to worry about identity theft but we do.

I let mine pile up way too long instead of doing it a little at a time

Yes, it's a shame we have to worry about people stealing our identities nowadays. I hope you had fun at your granddaughter's party!

Of course, we have shredders at work (many of them!). But I don't have one at home. Many of my friends do.

It was a lot easier back then. I'm diligent about shredding but I would rather just toss the paper in the recycle bin.
