Thirty Eight years ago

I'm gobbling raspberries that I harvested from the garden and thinking about how fast time flies by, like it or not. Thirty eight years ago I was so young. I was woken up that morning by what felt like a bucket of cold water being dumped in my bed. Actually it was me. And it was time to get my pregnant body up and out. Rachel dear was knocking at the door. I woke my beloved and told him!! No more plans to buy diapers and other supplies. Rachel wanted to be born. Now not later. He helped me weather through labor and then made sure I was in one piece at the bottom of the apartment stairs. A friend was there to drive our jalopy to the Birth Place. Oh. OH. Car would not start. Why not?? Some blankety blank had stolen the distributor cap from the car as a joke. Back into the apartment building. Not much time, folks. Got to go. Knocked on doors. Found a guy who answered the summons. Yes. He had a Volkswagen Bug. Guess what stranger?? Got a preggers lady here who is about to um..... pop. In we went and off, down Seattle streets, the car a stick shift. Me not feeling super great. I bet he was a nervous wreck. Not that long after, safely at the Birth Place, Rachel made her appearance. She grabbed my beloved's Best Dad button as a first joke. I called my Mom and told her where I was and what was up. All this thirty eight years ago.

Glad you made it in time! I would have been freaking out if that was me and the car broke down...Really bad timing, but good that you had a neighbor willing to help. =)

@LovingMyBabies We were college age then. Neighbor 'kids' thought they'd play a joke on us by taking the distributor cap out of the car. The next morning, after us three got home, we found the cap sitting in front of the car. I hope they learned their lesson, the stupids.

At least you made it to the clinic. Your neighbour would have got the shock of his life if the baby had come out in the car.

@Maluse Yeah. He did not even know us. I'm sure he was quite upset about having possibilities happening in his little car.

You almost had to do the pioneer birthing @sallypup odd isn't it that women no longer know how to give birth without help.

That was smart @sallypup Can you imagine being one of those pioneer women who were all alone when they gave birth?

That was a time where you were glad that you at least got a ride to the birth place. What an adventure you had all those years ago.

@jstory07 I had an easy birth but yes, not sure what I would have done if I had not been able to get to the mid wives.

Hmmm.... Were you a hippy? Time does fly. Did you ever find out who took the distributor cap?

@RichardMeister Yup. I wore combat boots. The girls in the dorms tried to do a make over on me but I didn't do well at allowing that. We found the cap on the street in front of the car the next day.

@sallypup That does sound like it was someone joking around.
