What is your favorite alcoholic summer drink? Or for non-alcohol drinkers your favorite beverage of choice? Mine is Tanqueray (Gin) and tonic, although other brands are also acceptable. Gin was a prohibition era favorite. It was blended in bathtubs during the roaring twenties. Its flavoring is provided by using juniper berries in it's mixture. Gin is also a very versatile drink as it is one of the ingrediants in a martini. Shaken not stirred, as James Bond would say. The drink was also popularized in rock music in the song "Piano Man," with the phrase "making love to his tonic and gin." The chemicals in this cocktail compliment each other well giving it a very agreeable taste instead of being bitter. Finally, gin is a favorite summer drink as evidenced by a U.S. market being one of the highest purchasers of gin in the world, trailing only the Phillipines. A good case for a nice tasting drink.
